Associate, GHG Protocol City Project, India


Overview
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) is seeking an Associate to work on the citywide GHG accounting project. The GHG Protocol works with businesses, cities, governments, and environmental groups around the world to develop GHG accounting standards and guidance, and internationally accepted management tools to help tackle climate change. As part of the GHG Protocol City Project, the GHG Protocol is partnering with C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group and ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability to develop an international standard for city- and community-scale GHG accounting and reporting (Global Protocol for Community-Scale Greenhouse Gas Emissions, GPC). In India, we work with cities to pilot test the draft GPC and promote its adoption. Currently we are working closely with the city of Bangalore as part of the WRI's Bangalore Sustainable Cities Project (BSCP). The Associate will be the key person to implement and coordinate the GHG Protocol Cities' initiative in India, and participate in the development of the GPC.
Major Responsibilities
India Initiative (70%):
  • Implement, coordinate, and disseminate the GHG Protocol City Project in India. The current priority is to complete the Bangalore GHG inventory project as part of the BSCP and a case study for the GPC.
  • Work with other WRI teams to implement the BSCP to ensure high impact outcomes.
  • Conduct a detailed scoping to develop strategies for scaling-up the Bangalore GHG inventory project and disseminate the GPC to other Indian cities.
  • Conduct research and produce publications and tools to facilitate adoption and implementation of GPC in India.
  • Plan and implement related training programs.
  • Organize workshops and other stakeholder events.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders including establishing strategic partnerships, preparing web stories, blogs, and others.
  • Support project development activities, including communications with potential funders, identifying new funding opportunities, preparing concept notes proposals, and others.
  • Support coordination and administrative works such as contract, budget, and intern management.
  • Other tasks as requested.
International Initiative (30%):
  • Support the research and drafting of GPC.
  • Conduct research and produce publications related the GPC.
  • Facilitate and implement the GPC activities in India, including case studies, pilot projects, stakeholder events, and others.
  • Manage international pilot project as needed.
  • Attend meetings, workshops, and conference calls.
  • Other tasks as requested.
Qualifications
  • A master's degree in engineering, environmental sciences, energy, or other related fields.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in GHG accounting, preferably familiar with the GHG Protocol standards/guidance, IPCC Guidelines for National GHG Inventories, and ICLEI city accounting guidelines.
  • Familiar with low-carbon cities and energy related issues.
  • Excellent research and writing skills, preferably with publication experience.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and convening skills.
  • Excellent computer and quantitative analytical skills.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
