Job Description

ChildFund International is seeking a Director, Education and Child Protection within the Program Development Division. The Director is a member of the Senior Management Team that plays an influential role in setting the direction, pace and culture of the Division operating under a new mandate and new leadership. The Director fulfills technical leadership, representation and business development functions. This position offers the opportunity to make an impact on divisional strategy and vision for where children’s programming goes within the organization. The Director will develop a learning agenda, refine a program theory of change and foster new partnerships.

As a technical leader, the Director leads the development and implementation of a set of standards, indicators and effective practices. S/he oversees the creation of a learning agenda aligned with the organization’s theory of change and life stage approach including identifying key questions in the development arena and ensuring a plan to gather evidence, execute research, and develop a cadre of professionals across ChildFund offices worldwide.

The Director represents the organization in external fora and stays abreast of cutting edge practice to ensure that the ChildFund International program portfolio contributes to this discourse and benefits from it.

The Director is responsible for directly contributing to the quality and size of the portfolio around Education and Child Protection including donor cultivation, grants acquisition and management, proposal development, and partnership development.

The Director manages a team to execute on a program quality improvement agenda. This includes supervision of staff, collaboration with colleagues across borders, and developing and monitoring work plans.

Required Skills

Required

  • Master’s degree or Doctorate in closely related (such as International Development, International Education, Child Psychology, Child Development)
  • 10-15 years of experience in the management and execution of programs related to child development, education, orphans and vulnerable children or child protection
  • Proven ability to set strategic direction and develop operational plans
  • Demonstrated success in the management and development of dispersed geographic and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated experience in capacity building of staff, including training, mentoring and coaching
  • Demonstrated experience in technical leadership and knowledge and learning strategies that reach cadres of staff
  • Familiarity with the donor landscape active in programming around Children and Young Adolescents, education, OVCs, Child Protection and experience in growing a program portfolio, and executing and managing programs funded by a set of these donors
  • Knowledge of standards and effective practices across multiple disciplines for child and young adolescent development
  • Knowledge of participatory community development approaches
  • Proven ability to cultivate and steward relationships with partners and donors
  • Excellent presentation, public speaking and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing an influential style of leadership
  • Strong computer skills, with familiarity in using Microsoft Office suite applications
  • Organized, team player, self-starter and results-oriented individual
  • Travel required

Preferred

  • Prior experience with sponsorship as a funding mechanism for development programming
  • French, Spanish, or Portuguese language skills
