BBC Media Action, the BBC’s international development charity, believes in the power of media and communication to help reduce poverty and support people in claiming their rights. Our aim is to inform, connect and empower people around the world, and audience is at the heart of all we do.
Our Assurance & Risk team is based in London and travels frequently to our country offices. Assurance and Risk provides support to management through: audits and reviews of country offices, and key processes, and providing advice to management. We are recruiting an Auditor to assist the Assurance and Risk Manager to assist management with internal controls, risk management, and compliance across Media Action and provide advice to the Management team.
Role
As Auditor, you’ll review key central systems, providing recommendations and advice as written reports and face to face feedback. Whilst you’ll mainly be based at Media Action headquarters in London (W12), you’ll also travel to country offices (approx. 6-8 weeks travel per year) to conduct audits and reviews. You’ll act as an organisational expert on donor compliance, internal controls, and risk management and recommend improvements for Media Action’s key policies.
Requirements
Experienced in audit and/or financial control, you’ll be a qualified accountant (or ‘qualified by experience’ in carrying out a comparable role). You’ll have excellent report writing, drafting and reviewing skills and have a concern for accuracy whilst keeping sight of the broader picture. With the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, you’ll have good interpersonal skills and be able to build effective working relationships with financial and non-financial managers and staff. Good judgement, with the willingness and ability to take the initiative in identifying problems and in suggesting and implementing solutions are also required.
Knowledge of institutional donor (e.g. EU, USAID, DFID) requirements and compliance with grant conditions is desirable for this role.
