Since September 2010, the Centre for Development Studies at Birzeit University has been working in partnership with Medical Aid for Palestinians on a project entitled, "Empowering People with Disabilities to Claim their Rights and Entitlements." This project, which is being implemented over three and a half years (42 months), aims to empower people with disabilities to become key agents of change within their communities; enabling them to effectively self advocate using national and international legal frameworks and the latest Community-based rehabilitation practice guidelines. The projects' advocates will specifically lobby and support local government and civil society organizations in adopting and implementing accessible and inclusive standards of practice; creating positive examples of successful inclusion which can be used to influence change at a national level. All experiences, lessons learnt, tools, materials and models on the project are being documented and promoted for the purpose of sustainable development and encouraging best practice.
The main purpose of the mid-term review is to assess the progress of the project to date and offer recommendations for ways to maximise the impact of the work being done, thus contributing to improving the overall implementation of the project.
The review will be managed by the consultant with the assistance of the project steering committee, which includes representatives from the Centre for Development Studies, MAP and external disability advisers, and in co-ordination with the MAP Disability Programme Manager, who will be overseeing the review.
