Director of Systems and Operations

The PositionThe Rocketship Education Director of Systems and Operations is a full-time, exempt position. This individual works to create, develop, revise and codify key operational systems at the school, regional and national levels that will ensure the organization realizes its mission and vision to eliminate the achievement gap and serve over 1 million students in 50 regions.
This position will be on the National Team responsible for work that will service the entire Rocketship Education Organization at the National, Regional, and School levels.
Responsibilities
The Director’s duties include:
Systems Inventory and Prioritization
  • Create a network-wide inventory of key operational systems at the school, regional and national level
  • Conduct a needs assessment to determine priority of system creation/revision
  • Analyze individual system return on investment
  • Continually monitor the effectiveness of our systems; ensure that systems keep pace with evolving business needs; and develop data driven recommendations and improvement plans
PowerSchool/Student Information System:
  • Hire and manage PowerSchool Administrator to transition PowerSchool architecture, development, reporting, and maintenance from external service provider to internal specialist
  • Lead process to create National Network functionality within PowerSchool that can service regions multiple states
  • Develop documentation and training to support new regions and schools
Compliance System:
  • Design and create a system to hold regions accountable for all national, state and authorizer, and Rocketship compliance metrics
  • Identify Rocketship compliance metrics that all schools and regions should meet irrespective of region or authorizer
  • Create a system that will allow regions to populate state/authorizer specific compliance deliverables
  • Develop national oversight process
Lottery and Enrollment:
  • Refine the lottery and enrollment system creating
  • Create enhancements for Bay Area Lottery system
  • Adapt Lottery and enrollment system to meet needs of Milwaukee Region
  • Design process for instance creation for all new regions
Performance Management:
  • Collaborate with Strategy and Data Team to develop RFI for Performance Management System
  • Research and identify performance management solution
Data and System Management Strategy
  • Identify Data Management best practices within Charter Management Organization community
  • Develop Data Management Strategy and vision
  • Oversee the in-house developed architecture of back office systems to ensure integration and full support of school and regional staff
Training and Support
  • Create regional and school level trainings to support non-instructional staff
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in strategic and project planning, incorporating the perspective and participation of multiple stakeholders
  • Strong communication, influencing and negotiation skills
  • Experience managing multiple critical deadlines and adapting quickly and confidently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with representatives from all levels of organization, including board members, external funders, school leaders and teachers
  • Experience, creating monitoring and maintaining adaptable cross-functional systems that enhance organizational efficiency and that can adapt to the needs of multiple operating requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project, and the ability to quickly learn new applications
  • BA / BS Degree Required (MBA, MA preferred)
  • 5+ years of professional experience operations, strategy and/or complex projects
  • Management experience preferred
  • Experience project planning strongly preferred
  • Awareness of K-12 education reform issues
