The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB/the Bank) is seeking to recruit an outstanding professional to assume the newly created role of Chief Risk Officer (CRO). The CRO will be responsible for working with the executive team and the board of directors (BOD) to support superior and sustainable business performance through the independent identification, measurement, assessment and monitoring of all significant risks to the Bank. The successful candidate will be based at CDB’s headquarters in
St. Michael, Barbados.
CDB is a regional multilateral Development Bank that collaborates with its Borrowing Member Countries (BMCs) to promote sustainable social and economic development, economic cooperation and regional integration.
The Role

The role of CRO is designed to provide on an ongoing basis a holistic perspective and analysis of the Bank’s measurement and management of its financial and non-financial risks. The CRO will play a leading role in the development and on-going management of the Bank’s risk framework, risk appetite and in the selection of its risk management and mitigation tools and techniques. It will require the CRO to collaborate extensively with business partners in the review of business plans, the establishment of risk-adjusted profitability, risk exposure and acceptable limits, and approaches to structures, hedge and manage risks.
Key responsibilities include:
• Direct collaboration with the business to ensure the transparency around both risk and risk-adjusted profitability, increased role in the review of business plans and limits and interaction with businesses in terms of how to structure/hedge/manage risk positions.
• Advice to senior management team on strategy and steering of the institution – in terms of impact and management of risk exposures.
• Communication with external stakeholders on risk-related issues, with a leading role in rating agency and market discussions.
The Candidate
The successful candidate should have a related graduate degree, with extensive experience of quantitative risk techniques. At least fifteen years’ experience in managing and delivering risk measurement and management/risk management consultancy, ideally in banking. Experience in a multilateral development bank is not required but would be considered an advantage
