Library Service Assistant University College London


Full Time
The appointment will be on UCL Grade 4. The salary range will be £20,135 - £21,674 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
A vacancy has arisen for two Library Service Assistants, based in a large, multi-site academic library service in central London. You will be part of a team maintaining the working environment for staff, students and visitors. Duties will include patrolling the libraries to ensure that readers are adhering to library regulations and maintaining the database of infringements. You will also be responsible for submitting maintenance repair requests and liaising with contractors when necessary. You will undertake periodic Health and Safety inspections of fire doors, emergency exits, kick steps and ladders. In addition, you will assist Library and study space users, by providing information directly, or where necessary referring queries to the appropriate staff. You will assist with the response of intruder alarms, taking the appropriate action to deal with unauthorised visitors and liaising with UCL Security when required. On occasions, you will be required to cover for the Portering role, which includes the distribution of mail and the movement of crates of material between the central libraries. 
You will have previous experience of working in a service-oriented environment and a public facing role with the ability to work as part of a team. You will also have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work unsupervised where necessary.
