Eurasia Foundation (EF), a US-based international development organization promoting civic and economic participation, is accepting applications for a Persian-language Legal Expert for Online Family Law Center. The Legal Expert must have a strong education and experience background in Iran.
Program Summary
The objective of the Family Law Center at the Eurasia Foundation is to increase the awareness and facilitate women’s access to justice through providing legal services and trainings.
Position Summary
The Legal Expert will facilitate the day-to-day operations of legal consultations, family law workshops for women and members’ network under the Center’s site. In coordination with the Program Officer, Legal Expert will also review and approve all content uploaded to the site. The Legal Expert is responsible for delivering online workshops, facilitating online discussion forums on women’s rights topics, and maintaining the online women’s network. The Legal Expert will also solicit and monitor user feedback on a regular basis. This position is based in Washington, DC.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
The Legal Expert will facilitate online workshops on women’s legal rights topics including basic legal concepts, negotiation skills, and tactics for defending their rights. The Legal Expert will also provide legal consultations through chat sessions for clients on a daily basis using an interactive format to allow participants to share their experiences and ask questions. S/he will conduct the online members’ network through seeding the discussions and facilitating chat sessions.
COURSE DELIVERY
- Reviews the applications and selects eligible applicants.
- Seeds discussions and answers the clients’ questions in forums on a daily basis.
- Facilitates weekly chat sessions using an interactive format to allow participants to share their experiences and ask questions.
- Researches the latest changes in family law procedures and implements the changes in the program.
ONLINE MEMBER NETWORK
- Monitors the site activities.
- Provides expert opinions or offer resources to the group as needed.
- Initiates discussions on key challenges or common problems documented through the Center’s legal consultations through monthly chat sessions.
- Helps build a network of legal support for program participants.
- Researches and identifies in-country networking opportunities for program participants.
- Solicits pro bono consulting and mentoring services from in-country lawyers.
EVALUATION AND REPORTING
- Monitors student involvement in forums maintaining an excel file of student progress, support received and remaining needs.
- Evaluates reason for drop-outs.
- Provide a final evaluation report of student progress, knowledge gained, course progression, overall engagement and forum participation.
- Track consultations using a log number.
- Records a brief description of the type of case, and the outcome of the consultation.
- Designs and implements the brief surveys to assess users’ level of satisfaction with the service.
- Provides feedback on ways the website and the consultation service can be improved or modified.
- Drafts donor reports on legal consultation achievements, interactions in workshops, learning achievements, partnerships and other noteworthy progress.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in law from an Iranian university.
- Bar exam certification from Iran is required.
- Minimum 3 years experience in practicing family law in Iran.
- Strong understanding of court policies and procedures in Iran.
- Strong track record communicating with local non-profit organizations and law firms.
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple tasks are required.
- Experience working on the web. Experience in education and with online education platforms preferred.
- Computer skills, including word processing, databases, and spreadsheets are required.
- Fluency in Farsi and English is required.
- Competency in type in Farsi is required.
