Since 2003, SKIP has been working with disadvantaged families in an impoverished district of the city of Trujillo, Peru. Our holistic program focuses on the educational, economic, emotional and social development of each child and family. It is our aim to foster the capacity of children and families to be the principal agents of change in their own lives.
The Department of Economic Development The Economic Development Department supports SKIP families in the creation of sources of sustainable income through the provision of microcredits, group and individual consulting, and a program of productive workshops. We work with more than 130 families through two distinct projects:
Microcredits– we offer microcredits that will help generate a new source of income for families, along with business workshops and support and advice in the launch of new businesses. Small loans are also offered to carry out home improvements and cover health emergencies.
Productive workshops– we have developed three types of workshops that allow SKIP mothers to develop certain productive skill, such as sewing, weaving and production of jewellery. We also offer business workshops and, through the work of our volunteers, support the mothers in the commercialization and sale of their products.
