At the BBC we constantly seek innovative ways to increase favourable media coverage and raise the profile of specific output in accordance with the priority based marcomms strategy, so you will need to anticipate or recognise material or issues with potentially negative impact, and within Corporate and departmental policy guidelines, to devise appropriate strategies and responses and take responsibility for them.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and contacts with the media, national and regional newspapers and magazines, websites, TV and radio outlets is key, as is the ability to co-ordinate press conferences, briefings, previews and press management at BBC events, handling requests for interviews and giving authority for viewings to be arranged.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with BBC production departments, independent production companies, talent, their agents and representatives, ensuring that any press and publicity activities are consistent with the overall publicity strategy and priorities for a particular genre or service is vital.
You will also act as the first point of contact for the Press Office, including out of hours as necessary, in the event of news stories or policy questions arising about their specialist area.
