JOB SPECIFICATION

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) is the world's largest cruise industry trade association with representation in Europe. CLIA engages in all forms of communications to promote the value and desirability of cruise industry all over the world and CLIA Europe is in charge of this engagement within the European market.

CLIA Europe also represents the interests of European cruise lines, travel agents, port authorities and destinations, and various industry business partners before regulatory and legislative policy makers in Europe. 

As we implement the association’s new structure in Europe, we are also keen on putting the right talent in place in order to deliver enhanced value to the global cruise industry while ensuring that the industry speaks with one voice before our numerous global stakeholders. 

We are now searching for a dynamic, determined and proactive strategic communication advisor to join this international, vibrant and exciting organisation at a time of significant constant growth for both CLIA and the industry it represents. 

1. JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the communications advisor will:
  • Provide CLIA Europe with early warning, monitoring and high quality analysis of those issues or media enquiries affecting cruise lines or cruise line industry at both the European and international level;
  • Coordinate with European communication agencies all the monthly activities, coverage and progress reports;
  • Assist in the development of internal and external communication strategies that promote and lead reputational and consumer media engagement;
  • Development editing and producing communication materials including press kits, press releases, position papers, statements. Assist with issues communication by preparing materials, Q&A’s and Key messages;
  • Ensure CLIA Europe’s communication strategies and messages are articulated to the right media and to assist the Director in preparing for media, cruise line members and outside organisations;
  • Build and develop close working relationships with all relevant communication managers from cruise lines, European communication agencies and journalists, and other interested parties to ensure communication streams that facilitate the provision of the above objectives.
2. PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential:

  • Educated to graduate level in a related field such as Communications, PR, Business or Journalism with three years relevant work experience preferably within a communication agency environment;
  • Previous experience in strategic communications and media relations;
  • Good understanding of the workings of the European Union and the various government/industry bodies which feed into these;
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Power Point;
  • Experience of presenting and explaining media data and analytical and operational communication actions and reports;
  • Excellent written and spoken English and French;
  • Excellent creative writing and synthesis skills;
  • Flexibility of approach in terms of working arrangements and a willingness to undertake significant European travel;
  • Proactive person used to work in a young and multinational environment.

Preferred:

  • Good knowledge of tourist, shipping or cruise line industry;
  • Experience in working in or with a Membership organisation, identifying, developing and agreeing communication positions;
  • Third language such as German or Italian.
3. DESCRIPTION OF PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To keep abreast of regulatory developments and to provide the Director of Communications with detailed commentary and analysis:
  • Act as a point of contact and operational coordination for CLIA Global PR team, CLIA Europe PR Local teams, CLIA PR subcommittee cruise line members and communication agencies on all media queries and to provide a rapid, detailed and focused response;
  • Compile, analyse and assess data related to the communication agencies work within their local markets and evaluate performance;
  • Coordinate the communication activities related to industry events in order to maximise media placement;
  • As agreed with the Director of Communications, represent CLIA Europe in relevant fora or events;
  • Assist the Director of Communications in the servicing and operation of the relevant CLIA Europe PR committee by preparing accurate and timely documentation, reports and minutes;
  • Provide the necessary communication and messaging input to the work of other CLIA Europe activities as appropriate.
4. LOCATION AND SALARY
