Field of activity

Since 2009 GIZ International Services has been commissioned by the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to provide technical support in the training of trainers. The Technical Trainers College (TTC) Riyadh was established by GIZ in the same year and the first class of trainers graduated in June of 2012; many of which are currently being integrated into the existing TVET-System. To ensure the sustainability of the TTC approach, GIZ has been commissioned to establish and manage a new College of Applied Technology with an In-Service Training Center (ISTC) in Yanbu on the Red Sea. The College began operating in September of 2012 and has employed a number of the newly graduated TTC trainers. Particular emphasis has been placed on the continuous technical and didactical guidance of the Junior Trainers, as well as the implementation of an English medium college; the first of its kind within the TVTC system. All accepted trainees are expected to complete a preparatory year in which they prepare for a full English-medium technical education.

The new College of Applied Technology with the ISTC will also contribute to the revision of the existing curricula and set standards for developing training material as well as for professional development of Saudi trainers and administrative staff. The College with its ISTC covers the following fields: Mechanical Technology and Refrigeration/Air conditioning; Electrical Technology and Electronics; Networking, Application Development, Technical Support, and Telecommunications.

Your tasks

• Organize trainers’ tasks, duties, schedules, as well as daily routines;
• Lead, motivate, support, challenge and develop trainers to ensure continuous improvement within the department;
• Develop and maintain a Department ethos of high expectations, mutual support, and care for trainers and trainees;
• Establish and maintain the Department reputation as a centre of excellence;
• Take a strategic role in the development of the department to enhance and extend the learning experience of trainees;
• Establish creative, responsive and effective approaches to learning and teaching;
• Organize and supervise students’ assessments;
• Be responsible for learning outcomes within the department (i.e., attendance, retention, withdrawals, achievement, and key and functional skills)
• Handle academic issues with trainees;
• Determine, organize and implement a diverse, flexible curriculum and develop links with local employers related to the curriculum area;
• Setup, supervise, and elaborate an efficient lab and workshop use plan;
• Build up an effective, mutually beneficial relationship with key regional Industry;
• Represent the Department internally and externally, and develop and facilitate strong links with Partner Schools, Higher Education Institutions, other educational organisations and employers;
• Participate in Department and College developments; attend internal and external meetings and training programmes relevant to the performance and execution of your duties.

Your profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in the field of vocational training with an Electrical Engineering and/or Electronics background;
• Profound knowledge and experience in the field of vocational pedagogy (e.g. experience as teacher trainer);
• Ten years of experience in the field of Vocational Training and Electrical Engineering, including the management of teacher teams;
• Excellent English language skills;
• Intercultural sensitivity; working experience in the Arab world is an asset ;
• Experience in developing curricula / training material;
• Expertise in creating industrial relations;
• Experience working in intercultural teams;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office platform (Word, Outlook, Excel and Power Point).

Assignment period

Starting date will probably be 1st of August 2013. Contracts can be offered for the duration of one or two years with the option of renewal.
