- Represents the British Council in the centre of European political and cultural debate. It advocates the Council’s purpose and strategy to a highly influential European and international audience of policy makers, thereby attracting support, earning trust and gathering vital information about opportunities for funding and partnerships for our work worldwide;
- Builds and maintains relationships and partnerships with Brussels based major international organisations, influencing them positively about the value of cultural relations to enhance their work and brand, and generating significant income and impact for the Council in core strategic business areas;
- Links Regional Directors and their planning staff and Strategic Business Unit leads in Headquarters to EU funding sources and providing the EU development aid and cultural policy context to strategic planning in all sectors.
Purpose of job:
- To work within the advocacy team to plan and deliver successful advocacy activities and events (high level conferences, Arts events, visit programmes, etc.);
- To contribute to the EU team’s effort to provide insights about European Affairs to senior colleagues in the UK and across the British Council’s global network;
- To provide efficient support to Director EU office (organisation of travel and meeting programme).
Main duties
- Contributing in the planning and delivery of British Council’s programme of events: planning, logistics, communications, content, participation, delivery and evaluation. Budget management, relationship management, and good levels of organisational/operational planning are important for this role;
- Contribute to developing and implementing the arts programme in Brussels. Help Developing and maintaining relationships with key arts sector professionals in Belgium and with the BC Arts Group in London;
- Contribute to the European Team intelligence effort to provide insights about European Affairs to senior British colleagues across the network( this includes analysis and reporting on EU policies, attending external events);
- Support the Country Director in travel organisation and planning meetings.
Requirements for the job
- The applicant must have previous experience in working independently in the delivery of successful events;
- The applicant must have good knowledge of the work and structure of the European institutions and will show flexibility in covering a wide area of subject and tasks;
- Attendance at evening/weekend events sometimes required.
- The applicant must be eligible to work in Belgium
Skills and Knowledge
- Good communication and interpersonal skills;
- Fluent English, good knowledge of French;
- IT skills.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience relevant to this position;
- Proven experience in project/event management;
- Experience in customer services and relationship building;
- Knowledge of EU institutions.
Qualifications
- University/Higher Education level.
