Duties & ResponsibilitiesNature and Scope of Position:
- Carries out complex or novel research assignments to develop new or refined materials, processes, products, and/or scientific methods and approaches.
- Performs research activities including sample preparation, data acquisition and interpretation, findings / recommendations/ reporting / publishing; etc.
- Reviews schedules, cost and documentation to ensure success of projects.
- Makes substantial contributions to determining feasibility of goals and objectives.
- Develops technical proposals and makes presentations to potential customers/grant sponsors.
- Identifies problems and related technical issues leading to long-term, generic solutions; identifies technical approach for solving problems and meeting customer/grantor needs.
- Sought out for contributions to reports and publications; author/co-author on papers, proposals, presentations and reports; gives invited papers.
- Organizes and chairs sessions at technical meetings.
- Interacts in a collaborative manner with other team members to accomplish organizational goals; provides ideas to improve organizational efficiency.
- Maintains external research relationships to identify and develop new funding sources.
- Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed tests, products and equipment when necessary data are insufficient or confirmation by testing is advisable.
- Makes decisions independently on technical problems and methods, and represents the project in conferences to resolve important questions, and to plan and coordinate work.
- Acts as a technical lead or consultant on various projects; leads the development of intellectual property.
- Conducts trainings/workshops/ seminars related to own scientific / research field, for educational purposes.
- Develops research objectives and proposals for own or joint research, with the assistance of a mentor if required.
- Provides technical advice related to the procurement of scientific / research equipment / supplies.
- Contributes to positive co-worker/customer/investigator relationships through efficient interaction on current grants/projects.
- Mentors junior staff in development of technical, project and business development skills.
- Performs other related tasks as necessary.
- Maintains confidentiality of information at all times.
Qualifications
- Ph.D in Science/Engineering, related to Materials studies;
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the related field;
- Proficiency in written and spoken communication in Arabic and English Languages;
- Computer proficiency in standard packages (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and internet use).
