Director Business Development Education for Development

 Position Summary 
 
 
The position requires a Senior Business Development Director with significant experience working in a wide range of development, conflict, and post-conflict situations. The Director will lead and shape ED colleagues in developing new opportunities in instructional systems, educational governance, work-force development, and health-related educational activities. This is a senior management position with selected independence and managerial latitude. It encompasses business planning, representation, and market development.
 
 
 Reporting & Supervision 
 
 
The Business Development Director reports to the Vice President and Senior Director, ED Division.
 
 
 Primary Responsibilities 
 
 
As Marketer and Business Developer for the ED Division:
  • Oversee tracking of procurement opportunities and work with the ED Vice President to organize the proposal preparation process including staffing early on in the process. Manage ED preparatory efforts, in association with Technical Leads, for proposals including developing partnerships and clients. The Director will work with corporate and program staff on gathering pertinent documentation for proposal and knowledge management purposes.
  • Analyze and organize the marketplace, identify new business targets, and contribute to capture preparation--teaming, strategic recruitment, etc.
  • Analyze the competitive field, develop fitting alliances and strategic partnerships.
  • Drive the business development process for ED—play a significant role in strategy development and sub-contractor negotiations.
  • Create sophisticated market strategies to position ED as a leading contender for specific market opportunities.
  • Participate or lead the organization of periodic technical workshops for the education community.
  • Promote Creative and ED by attending external events, networking with clients and counterparts, articulating a solid understanding of ED’s past and present portfolio, and effectively representing the company's history, values, and standards.
As a Senior member of the ED Division:
  • Participate in divisional management, planning and strategic decision-making.
  • Contribute to the creation of a technically rigorous and intellectually nurturing environment.
  • Build networks and creatively engage the field to enhance the public image and competitiveness of the division.
 
 
 Required Skills & Qualifications 
 
 
  • Master's degree in international development or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in international development programming.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in business development, USAID preferred.
  • Significant prior experience implementing USAID-sponsored programming.
  • Excellent written communications skills.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills.
  • Strong representational skills.
  • Prior experience in marketing, capture management, and USAID proposal development.

 
 
 Desired Skills & Qualifications 
 
 
  • Successful experience leading or authoring proposals.
  • Prior experience in the field, especially in areas related to education.
  • Academic background in education and related publishing.
  • Experience in presenting before technical audiences.
