Nursing Education Advisor


REPORTS TO: Associate Director of Nursing

OVERALL JOB FUNCTION:         

Under the direct supervision and guidance of the ICAP Associate Director of Nursing, the ICAP Nursing Education Advisor will contribute to planning and implementation of the Global Nurse Capacity Building Initiative, and provide technical assistance to ICAP country programs in collaboration with regional nursing advisors.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Provide technical assistance in pre-service and in-service nursing and midwifery education, and activities that promote nursing leadership and recognition. This includes design of programs in partnership with in-country teams as well as provision of mentorship, didactic teaching, and guidance to ICAP in-country staff in order to enhance capacity at the national and institutional levels for the development of high quality nursing and midwifery education systems.
  • Guide the development and/or refinement of  materials, including curricula, technical updates, webinars, and other educational support tools, with a focus on nursing and midwifery education.
  • Guide the development and implementation of communication and dissemination strategies, including a project newsletter and an interactive Web portal, to promote coordination and networking among country programs to share innovative models and practices.
  • Conduct visits to country programs and supported educational institutions to ascertain needs and address them in support of building capacity and meeting donor initiatives and requirements.
  • Work with ICAP country teams and ICAP’s Strategic Information Unit to support local use of data to enhance the delivery of high quality, evidence-based interventions to improve nursing and midwifery education systems.
  • Represent ICAP and the Global Nurse Capacity Building Initiative at  meetings, scientific conferences, and other venues, as needed.
  • Participate in preparation of  donor reports.
  • Perform other related duties, as directed.
EDUCATION
  • A Master’s degree in Nursing with a major emphasis in nursing education
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum three (3) years experience working internationally on HIV-related public health, nursing and health education initiatives
  • Experience in  training and mentorship in nursing
  • Ability to work independently with strong problem-solving skills and ability to foresee problems and initiate appropriate action
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal English)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, Power Point, etc.)
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • French language skills desirable but not required
  • A Doctoral degree in Nursing with a major emphasis in nursing education
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Requires international travel of about 6 trips per year with each trip lasting approximately10 days.
