Senior Manager, Marketing and Member Services – Asia Pacific


This position is responsible for leading a team of 6-12 staff including 2-4 managers who support SPE’s mission of technology dissemination and service for its membership within the oil and gas industry. 

The Senior Manager works closely with the Managing Director to develop strategic direction and implementation for the Marketing and Member Services team.  This position will have regular contact with SPE’s global leadership team, international member committees, other SPE Senior Managers, external stakeholders and members of the media. As a representative of SPE, this position is expected to project a high standard of corporate image at all times.

The Senior Manager will manage the following functions with matrix reporting relationship with a global functional leader based in Dallas or London:

  • Marketing and Communications
  • Membership Development and Services
  • Public Relations and Protocol
  • Media Relations
  • Officer Support
  
This position will also be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with existing customers both within SPE and within the oil and gas industry.  SPE’s organises several large events in the region including the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC), Offshore Technology Conference Asia (OTC Asia), and Asia Pacific Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition (APOGCE).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop SPE’s membership in the regions covered by the office, including programs to support young professionals and students
  • Ensure excellent marketing and PR programs for all SPE business lines and functions
  • Responsible for publicity and marketing efforts for all SPE activities, programmes and events in Asia Pacific.
  • Develop close working relationships with local and international media
  • Develop strong relationships with SPE Sections and Student Chapters
  • Work closely with SPE’s Certification program team to grow the program in the region
  • Work directly with the Managing Director to develop strategic goals and performance indicators for the Marketing and Member Services team
  • Oversight responsibility for developing and maintaining key industry and meeting industry contacts
  • Motivate and inspire the team to execute and support events and member services for the region at the highest level of professionalism
  • Manage the daily affairs of the team with an eye toward safety, health, and environmental standards which are in line with SPE’s global standard
  • Develop new business opportunities
  • Work with financial data to develop management reports and recommendations to improve operating performance year over year
  • Develop the professional capability of the Marketing and Member Services team in all areas through training, coaching and ongoing development
  • Travel to prospective event locations and SPE business meetings as required
  • Coordinate the activities of SPE officers and Board members in the region
  • Assist in drawing specific processes for staff as needed by the Managing Director
  • Any other duties as required


MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will carry out management and leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organisation's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include recruiting, hiring and training of staff; planning, assigning and directing work; coordinating project schedules, addressing complaints and resolving issues, as well as providing recommendations for process improvements.   Development of key relationships with members, key stakeholders and members of the media is also an important priority of this position.


Desired Skills & Experience

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelors or Master’s degree in business management or related field with 10-15 years’ experience in areas related to professional associations, service providers, meetings, conference and convention business.  Strong working knowledge of public relations as well as existing relationships with media partners is essential. A minimum of five years managing and leading a team of people is required.  Association, member service and oil and gas industry experience will be considered a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must be able to write and speak clearly and persuasively with executives both within SPE and external stakeholder organisations.  Ability to make presentations, draft reports and generate correspondence at the executive level.  Mastery of the English language and working knowledge of a second language (Chinese or Bahasa Melayu) is essential.

  • Well travelled with an understanding of various cultures, customs and business practices in Asia and beyond
  • Project Management with a track record of meeting KPIs and aggressive deadlines for large projects
  • Experience working in a fast paced environment
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Willingness to travel 30-35% of the time
