Senior OR Officer Standard Chartered Bank - Malaysia


Assist Business/Function Unit Head and UORM/SORO, in controlling the level of operational risk exposure that results from business/function unit activities.
• Undertaking periodic self-assessment on key controls to assess the proper functioning and adequacy of existing controls.
• Assisting in coordinating, facilitating and promoting understanding of operational risk and in implementation and management of OR within the Unit

Key Roles & Responsibilities

1. Operational Risk Policy and Governance
• Understanding of Group Operational Risk Policy and procedures.
• Learn and apply Business/Function unit related policies and controls.
• Clear understanding of local regulatory requirements.
• Awareness of group policies as they relate to the specific business area.

2. Operational Risk Management
• Identify external changes and their impact upon underlying risks and control effectiveness.
• Identify controls gaps from self assessment exceptions.
• Proactively identify potential risks and escalate concerns to UORM/SORO.
• Implement appropriate action plans to mitigate risks and issues identified.
• Assist line manager to manage and monitor actions on risks and issues and report status to UORM.
• Utilise Risk management tools (Optial and Phoenix systems) .
• Input of KCSA results to core systems on a timely basis.
• Navigate through Optial and Phoenix systems to obtain the key information to assist with operational risk management.
• Evaluate and present information on potential key exposure risk areas to line manager and UORM.

3. Business / Function Acumen (Refer to the relevant responsibility stated below)
• WB and CB specialist skills.
• Identify unit key risk areas.
• Refresh own knowledge on products , processes and controls relevant to business or segment
• Finance specialist skills
• Understand and implement as appropriate for the relevant responsibilities the requirements of the various Financial Policies with respect to FCP, FAP, MAP, IFRS, etc. in the functional specific areas.
• Identify any non-compliance.
• Implement the action plans to close the gaps identified, if any.
• HR specialist skills
• Identify opportunities to enhance the process to mitigate the risk exposures
• Technological / CRES specialist skills
• Identify business / function unit key risk exposures

4. Writing and communication capability
• Report OR and loss clearly on systems
• Be confident in having conversations about OR agenda to line management

Qualifications & Skills

A good Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, Risk Management or other related discipline, from a reputable University.
• Committed, meticulous, courageous, equipped with good communication and writing skills
• At least 2-3 years working Operational Risk, Operational Support or Quality Assurance experience within the Financial Services industry.
