POX Operations Lead Hand/Advisor Dominican Republic


Position Title:          POX Operations Lead Hand/Advisor
Reports To:             POX Operations Supervisor
Based:                       Pueblo Viejo Mine Site
 
Position Overview:
 
The incumbent is responsible for the operational activities of the POX Circuits on shift basis. The duties requires knowledge and operation of a pressure oxidation plant which is inclusive of pre-heater vessel, autoclave vessel including oxygen/steam/ cooling water addition, flash vessel, boiler operation, demineralised water treatment plant,  Geho pump and strainer cleaning requirements, neutralization circuits and copper recovery. The incumbent will also provide relief to neutralization and autoclave specific area lead men in the event of their absence. The incumbent will ensure proper safety and environmental management systems are followed. The incumbent will serve as a positive role model with a high degree of Visible Felt Leadership in the field. The position location is in the Dominican Republic and will be a fly in/ fly out assignment.
 
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
 
·                 Implement SAFE task work procedures that will ensure the SAFE and efficient operation of all of the circuits within area of responsibility.
·                 Implement task work procedures that will ensure environmental compliance as they pertain to spills and air emission regulations.
·                 In collaboration with the safety department, perform a risk assessment of the operations, including tasks, workplaces and equipment with the goal of determining the critical tasks and workplaces. This will be the foundation for the creation of the standard operating procedures and the schedule of task observations and workplace inspections.
·                 Work with maintenance group to perform SAFE and full lock out of the equipment within the pressure oxidation plant.
·                 Ensure safe and timely switching of plant equipment from standby status to operating status as needed.
·                 Provide good communication both oral and written for the coordination of activities between operations, maintenance and mine departments in a timely manner as the control room is the hub for all activities.
·                 Generate specific, accurate and descriptive work requests as required.
·                 Provide strong leadership and motivational skills
·                 Be able to work in a high stress environment and solve operational issues quickly.
·                 General knowledge of the safe and proper operation of multiple plant processing equipment. i.e. water treatment, boilers, autoclave seal systems, CCD’s , copper bioreactor and degas.
·                 Play a key role within the commissioning teams in relation to the start up of the Process Plant circuits.
·                 Be part of a team to assist in the Pre-operational testing activities led by the EPCM contractor and identify non-compliance items that make the punch list.
·                 Monitor and coordinate the shift activities and identify improvement opportunities when warranted and implement when possible.
·                 Involvement in the maintenance activities, including the use of Work Permits for his area of responsibility. Ensure the equipment is ready for the planned maintenance activities.
·                 Interact in succession planning within the operations team to ensure PVDC achieves development of the Dominican employees to assume positions of increasing responsibility.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
 
The incumbent will provide training and guidance to autoclave operators, boiler operators, neutralization operators, copper sulphide operators and POX/Neutralization area assistants. His judgement will be considered for additional requirements for above listed personnel.

Education:
 
High School Diploma minimum, Post Secondary certificate preferred.
 
Experience:
5 years of Pressure Oxidation and/or Neutralization plant experience with at least 1 year in a leadership role is preferred.  
Skills & Abilities:
  • Must be able to work unsupervised in a pro-active and productive manner.
  • Must hold strong diagnosis skills in fault finding, and resolve issues with minimal impact to production.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have strong coaching, mentoring, and communication and management skills.
  • Willing to travel and work out of country for 4 week intervals.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred. Willingness to learn the Spanish language is required.
