Background / General description:
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group (WBG), provides investment and advisory services to build the private sector in 187 developing countries, in order to create job and deliver services that improve living standards and create opportunity for people to escape poverty.

The infrastructure and natural resources group (INR) is composed of a global Department (CNG) and three regional industry departments (RIDs). Through private sector investment support INR expands the reach of infrastructure services, telecommunications and information industries, and promotes sustainable oil, gas and mining. Global knowledge of the industries we support is a key part of our value added for clients and for the successful management of our own business. Managing knowledge actively and ensuring that it flows smoothly to where it is needed and can be accessed readily by our staff is critical. The Department is seeking a Senior Knowledge Officer, who will lead a small team, to work with the managers and staff within CNG and across INR more broadly to ensure this (including through INR training and learning events). The ultimate objective is to help INR use knowledge in a transaction-focused environment to optimize business development opportunities, improve value addition to clients, and improve operational effectiveness and long-term investment outcomes.

Duties and Accountabilities:
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of INR’s knowledge support needs and aid management in developing approaches aligned to these needs

• Work with the Infrastructure management team to increase “buy in”, support and participation in active KM in INR including working with KM champions in groups and leverage them in order to create a culture in which knowledge is actively managed and shared,

• Working with corporate IT, lead the piloting and roll-out of collaboration tools (such as icollaborate) including related staff training

• Define and lead the implementation of operating plans, budgets and programs for knowledge management and learning activities in the infrastructure and natural resources group

• Work closely with communications officers to ensure that the knowledge base is effectively used to advance business objectives in external and internal communications

• Serve as a knowledge broker, and facilitate the introductions between knowledge seekers and providers

• Work with GKO to share experiences and cooperate to advance KM generally in IFC

Selection Criteria:
• 10 years of professional experience, of which 6+ years in Knowledge Management-related positions, and a demonstrated record of initiating and implementing broad based KM programs, within a financial services or other organization with global spread.

• Master’s degree in Business, Finance or a related field (degree in KM is beneficial)

• Proven people and leadership skills, able to generate enthusiasm for knowledge management and mobilize others across department boundaries in a diverse, multi-cultural environment.

• Self-motivated project initiator who can build project concepts based on the needs of an organization

• Program management experience including designing, planning and implementing knowledge-related initiatives

• Experience with developing communication programs/protocols

• Experience with knowledge-related IT tools, with particular emphasis on project management, business requirements definition and/or usability assessments

• Ability to synthesize large volumes of information from diverse sources (tacit and codified) to compile data, prepare quantitative and qualitative management reports and present concepts, ideas, etc. for presentation to senior managers
