Department

The Proms (started in 1895) is one of the largest classical music festivals in the world. The concerts take place each summer from mid-July to mid-September at the Royal Albert Hall, with associated events (talks, showcases, composer portraits, films, etc) and chamber music concerts held in other venues locally. The Proms lie at the heart of the BBC’s commitment to live music and cultural programming and the BBC’s promotion of the festival reaffirms its place as the country’s leading cultural patron. The combination of music-making of the highest quality available to all at accessible prices, with the special feature of ‘promming’ by standing audiences each night in the arena and gallery of the hall, makes the series unique and distinctive.
