UNHCR’s Private Sector Fundraising Service (PSFR) plays a crucial role in helping expand the organization’s funding base, while ensuring a sustainable and predictable stream of income. Although currently representing a small portion of UNHCR’s overall revenues, the contribution from the private sector is nonetheless significant and rapidly increasing: in 2012, income amounted to more than US$ 130 million. UNHCR’s private sector fundraising focuses on two main income pillars: leadership giving and individual giving. 
 
Context of the Role
 
UNHCR has a vision to grow Private Sector Fundraising income in the Gulf region by 40% over the next 5 years. It is a very exciting time for our team!
 
Our priority markets are Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Qatar, Kuwait and United Arab Emirates.
 
This is a new role to be based in the Regional Representation Office in Riyadh. The successful candidate will collaborate with a team of private sector fundraisers based in the region (currently in Abu Dhabi to service the region). He/she will have responsibility for KSA and Qatar where we already have significant relationships with key High Net Worth Individuals.
 
They will work closely with the Regional Representative who plays an active role in Leadership giving in the region, leading and often managing some key donor relationships. The global specialist for Leadership Giving provides strategic direction for the programme in the Gulf as it focuses on Leadership giving.
 
The supervisor is Regional Manager for Southern Europe, Middle East and Europe and is based in Rome.
 
The Regional Representative or their delegate will be requested to approve a monthly workplan, to provide inputs into UNHCR’s Performance Appraisal Management System (PAMs), to approve missions and annual leave as well as providing day to day guidance, support and advice to the incumbent on how to implement the PSFR Annual Plan. The incumbent will be expected to be an active and positive part of the Regional team and will be evaluated in their PAMs against this key objective based on inputs from the Representative
 
The incumbent will manage relations with partners, media, contractors and suppliers for PSFR programmes and direct any PSFR colleagues and consultants in their contact with external partners in KSA.
 
Major duties and responsibilities
 
Key results that will be achieved
 
  • The annual expenditure budget for PSFR Operations in KSA is efficiently managed.
  • The KSA annual PSFR plan including its associated income targets and other goals is developed, implemented/achieved and reported in a timely manner.
 
Responsibilities
 
  • Integrate the KSA activities into the Regional Representation office activities and plans and to be an active contributor and supportive member of the Regional team;
  • Explore and develop sources of funds from Leadership Giving sources (corporate/foundations/wealthy individuals) to increase level of funding;  
  • Develop a strategy and then plan and conduct PSFR campaigns in KSA including in emergencies, including managing relations with partners, media, contractors and suppliers; 
  • Develop and implement internet-based fund-raising activities in KSA;
  • Implement an individual fund-raising programme and full donor communications cycle in line with the agreed regional PSFR strategy and annual PSFR plans in KSA with the aim of recruiting and upgrading donors to maximize the income to UNHCR from private sector donors.;
  • Prepare submissions to the Income Growth Fund to secure funding to increase the donor base of private sector donors in KSA in line with the PSFR regional strategy.
 
Authority
 
  • Develop and assume responsibility for the implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive strategy to raise increased private-sector funds in KSA for UNHCR programmes worldwide.
 
Candidate Requirements
 
ESSENTIAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
 
  • A university degree (BA) in business/marketing, social sciences or a related discipline plus 8 years’ previous relevant work experience with 3 - 5 years private sector fundraising experience in a not-for-profit organisation or an international organisation or a marketing/fundraising consultancy firm in KSA.
OR
 
  • An advanced university degree (MA) in business/marketing, social sciences or a related discipline plus 6 years’ previous relevant work experience with 3 - 5 years private sector fundraising experience in a not-for-profit organisation or an international organisation or a marketing/fundraising consultancy firm in KSA.
  • Proven experience in preparing and implementing PSFR plans and developing plans for annual income growth as well as in strategic planning;
  • Demonstrated ability to meet PSFR targets;
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering Leadership Giving programmes;
  • Proven expertise and up-to-date knowledge in all major existing and new PSFR techniques including direct marketing and direct response fundraising, monthly donor programmes including face-to-face, telemarketing, middle and major donors, legacies, corporate fundraising and new media fundraising;
  • Experience of managing the production of fundraising materials from creative and design to production, print and delivery;
  • Experience of management of staff and/or consultants and good leadership skills;
  • Fluency in English required; Arabic language skills are highly desirable
 
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
 
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills and strong communication and presentation skills (both verbal and written;
  • Computer skills with particular reference to analysis of fundraising results, database management, data mining and internet e-commerce as well as proficiency in word, excel and powerpoint;
  • Experience in managing a PSFR programme in more than one not-for-profit organisation an advantage;
  • Experience in electronic fundraising and new media;
  • Experience in emergency fundraising for a humanitarian organisation;
