Head of Fundraising and Marketing SOFIA – Salvatorian Office for International Aid Rome, Italy


Hours: 38 hours (full-time) 
Duration: one year, to be converted to a permanent contract

BACKGROUND TO THE POSITION 

SOFIA – Salvatorian Office for International Aid – is the young and dynamic non-profit organisation of the Salvatorian Fathers and Brothers (Society of the Divine Saviour) and works to ensure decent living conditions for those most in need. Through projects related to health care, education, green energy and pastoral work, we support people in re-starting their lives and ensuring better opportunities for their children. Our geographical expertise includes Sub-Saharan Africa, India, the Philippines and Sri Lanka, as well as Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela (www.sofiaglobal.org).

SOFIA was set up in April 2008 in Rome and now exists of a Network with different entities: SOFIA Global (the corporate Rome-based office for project coordination & international fundraising, coordinating the SOFIA Network; 3 employees), Fondazione SOFIA Onlus (Rome-based; fundraising in Italy; 1 employee) and Stiftung SOFIA Swiss (in Zug; fundraising in Switzerland; 1 employee). 

In addition to the SOFIA Network, which is likely to open new offices on all continents from the second half of 2013 onwards, the Salvatorians have longstanding fundraising offices in Belgium, Germany, Poland, Spain, and the US. 

In the past five years, SOFIA has produced an impressive track record in project management and foundation fundraising. To help us reach our mission and make our growth sustainable, SOFIA Global is now looking for an innovative and seasoned fundraiser/marketer who takes the SOFIA Network and the other Salvatorian fundraising offices to the top in the fundraising fields of individual and major donors, legacies, business corporations, and events. 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES
  • You will be responsible for designing and implementing a fundraising & marketing strategy for the SOFIA Network to substantially increase its income in the above mentioned fields;
  • You will manage the areas of private fundraising, corporate fundraising, events, relationship/stakeholder management, marketing analysis and communication;
  • You will develop the Global and Italian fundraising & marketing team as well as actively support the other national SOFIA units and Salvatorian fundraising offices in doing their own fundraising & marketing.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Relevant university degree (e.g. marketing or fundraising) or compensating work experience;
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience;
  • Successful Direct Mail experience;
  • Track record of acquiring private and corporate clients, donors and/or funds;
  • Track record of driving and delivering a successful fundraising strategy ideally across a diverse portfolio, including legacy marketing, individuals and business corporations;
  • Track record of driving a successful communications and marketing strategy with experience of delivering innovative and creative plans to reach new audiences and drive brand development and recognition;
  • Combined work experience gained within the private and not-for-profit sectors is an asset;
  • Experience with fundraising in Italy is an asset;
  • Great writing skills;
  • A natural leader with proven ability to build and motivate a team;
  • Strong social, communicative and diplomatic skills;
  • Decisive, pro-active and creative;
  • Willingness to invest at least three years in support of SOFIA’s mission;
  • Evidence of high-level business relationships is an asset;
  • Languages: excellent English; good Italian; good knowledge of German, Spanish or other languages is an asset;
  • Other requirements: reliability and confidentiality; sympathetic to the values of SOFIA; sympathetic to the social teachings of the Catholic Church; basic knowledge of graphic design skills; knowledge of print and online publication production processes; experience of working in a multi-cultural environment in which content is produced in multiple languages; excellent computer knowledge.
