Lead and facilitate continuous improvement project teams to support business growth, customer service, and increased system velocity and capacity. Consult with local managers and supervisors to create, develop, implement and sustain management processes and plans. Advise, involve and educate field personnel in the use of continuous improvement techniques.
Accountabilities:
- Establish understanding and enthusiasm for Continuous Improvement management processes within local work groups.
- Deliver Continuous Improvement orientation and training to local work groups.
- Lead and/or facilitate strategic continuous improvement project teams and analyses. Lead the evaluation, problem solving, and implementation process for assigned Continuous Improvement initiatives. Ensure procedures and commitment exists to sustain implemented improvements.
- Collaborate with local field personnel to identify and define critical constraints.
- Work with operational management to analyze operational issues, recommend corrective actions, assess potential impact and implement solutions. Consult and collaborate with local management personnel on operational issues and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Ensure assigned key Continuous Improvement initiatives are implemented and sustained.
- Act as subject matter expert on Continuous Improvement methodologies. Consult with, advise, involve and educate employees.
- Coach and develop field personnel to enhance their knowledge and understanding of Continuous Improvement methodology and application. Help ensure employees reach and maintain a high level of efficiency and enthusiasm.
- Work cross-functionally to develop and reinforce the use of Continuous Improvement methodologies.
Desired Skills & Experience
Required Education, Training, Experience or Skills:
- A Bachelor Degree
Preferred Education, Training, Experience or Skills:
- A post-graduate degree (MBA, JD, etc..) or higher
- 2 years experience / knowledge in continuous improvement with significant applied experience and knowledge of CI tools or 5 plus years managing railroad operations at a terminal manager or above level
- 2 years experience / knowledge in lean manufacturing having led multiple kaizens. Able to demonstrate significant operational improvements
- 3 years experience / knowledge managing teams with successfully leading wide-scale deployment of continuous improvement activities
- 2 years experience / knowledge in statistical analysis with demonstrated experience using advanced statistical techniques. Ability to analyze both complex data sets and qualitative factors to determine root cause and solve major problems for the last time (using value stream mapping and other lean methodologies)
