We are looking for an experienced Project Development Manager to help us manage and grow our responsible tourism programmes of work in the Eden Valley and Cumbria.
If you are a highly motivated individual who believes in creating a greener tourism industry then READ ON…
Nurture Lakeland is known for its ground breaking work in Responsible Tourism. With over 18 million visitors a year to Cumbria and almost 9 million of those in the Lake District alone, the potential for significant environmental impact is high. However for over 18 years Nurture Lakeland has been working with the tourism industry and public bodies to ensure that the impacts never outweigh the positive benefits that a successful tourism industry can bring.
Innovative projects like ‘Love Your Lakes’ have contributed to significantly reducing the amount of phosphates in some of the major lakes, and ‘Fresh Air is Free’ is taking a whole new approach to transport planning with visiting holiday makers.
Our work in the Eden Valley under the banner of ‘Nurture Eden’ is taking a similar ground breaking approach to creating a new kind of low impact holiday.
Working with Eden District Council and local business clusters, Nurture Lakeland has secured funding from the Rural Development Programme for England to make this dream a reality.
In the beautiful Eden Valley in the east of Cumbria, tourism businesses will be participating in a scheme to demonstrate that not only is ‘green tourism’ good for the environment, but that it makes good economic sense too.
By supporting businesses in improving their own environmental practices, providing training for staff, supporting the development of a range of low impact holidays, for instance, cycle holidays, nature and wildlife tourism, and linking a range of fantastic local food and drink attractions, we are aiming to create a model sustainable tourism business community which will be a shining example to other tourism clusters elsewhere.
We are looking for a persuasive individual with creative vision who can help us to take this idea and make it a reality.
There are currently four strands to the Nurture Eden work. These are:
‘A Green Eden’ is delivering a programme of business support and training.
‘Cycle Eden’ is creating a range of exciting cycling products for the Eden Valley, including events, trails, and a mobile application.
‘Destination Eden’ is creating a range of marketing products focusing on low impact tourism. This includes; thematic maps, a mobile application and car free itineraries.
‘Local Distinctiveness’ is creating a toolkit of resources with unique local branding for use by businesses in the project area.
As the Project Development Manager you will be responsible for all aspects of the projects management and development and will work within the Nurture Lakeland team and with other experienced professionals in this field.
