The Role:
EnviroCentre’s Ecology Team has grown from strength to strength in recent years and has developed an impressive project portfolio. We are currently seeking to continue the development of our team by appointing a Senior Ecologist.
The Senior Ecologist will join a busy and dynamic team, spread across all offices. The successful applicant will be responsible for designing, managing and delivering a range of projects across the UK, although it is expected that the role will focus on projects in Scotland. The successful candidate will be expected to manage individual contracts, in order to deliver high quality ecological consultancy services within budget and to meet deadlines. They will also be involved in costing work and preparing tenders. This may involve: liaising with clients, other consultants and consultees; acquiring data from third parties; and organising and supervising sub-contractors.
The Senior Ecologist will be responsible for developing survey methods, delivering and co-ordinating fieldwork and producing survey reports and EIA chapters. The role will involve technical review of other ecological reports as part of EnviroCentre’s quality assurance procedures.
Senior Ecologist will be expected to participate in the continuing professional development of junior staff and be able to demonstrate organisational skills to manage a busy and varied workload.
About You:
You will be positive, enthusiastic and professional with over 5 years’ experience in ecological consultancy. You will be a strong communicator with skills in client and regulator liaison and have a track-record of winning and delivering projects. It is essential that candidates have UK experience.
You will be practical, committed and have a flexible attitude to work with the ability to support projects outwith your core specialisms.
Essential criteria:
  • An appropriate degree(s);
  • Full member of IEEM and preferably a Chartered Environmentalist;
  • A technical specialism such as a protected species;
  • A sound ecological knowledge of Scottish fauna and flora;
  • Experience of writing EPS licence applications for one or more of the following: bats, otter, great crested newts;
  • Experience of producing ecology chapters as part of EcIA for complex projects;
  • Up to date knowledge of EU and UK legislation and policy;
  • Up to date knowledge of, and familiarity with, survey guidance for a range of protected species;
  • Be personable, a team player and experienced with client interface; and
  • Hold a full clean driving licence.
Advantageous, but non-essential, skills include:
  • Licensed to work with a protected species;
  • GIS proficiency;
  • Habitat Regulations Assessment experience; and
  • Business development and marketing experience.
