BBC Radio 5 live is first for breaking news and the best live sport, attracting circa 6.5 million listeners every week with its accessible, contemporary programming. 5 live sports extra’s last RAJAR reported circa 1 million listeners.
This  new post of Communications Manager will bring together responsibility for both Sport and Radio 5 live.

Role

 
Working across the communications teams in the North you will lead, manage, motivate and develop a team that will devise and implement strategies for all aspects of communications for BBC Sport and BBC Radio 5 live. You will assist the Head of Communications, Sport & 5 live in providing strategic leadership to the Director of Sport and Controller of Radio 5 live and their teams and establish and maintain effective working relationships with the relevant BBC production/editorial teams, independent production companies, celebrities, their agents and representatives, ensuring that any press and publicity activities are consistent with the overall publicity strategy.

Requirements

 
 With an impressive record of achievement in the field of communications, both campaign based and PR, strategic or corporate communications based, you will have experience of working on a wide range of campaigns or projects. With front line communications (Press, PR and Publicity) and Media experience, covering proactive strategic and tactical planning, crisis management and rapid rebuttal across all media you will ideally have some understanding of the BBC’s structures, policies and concerns would be an advantage and/or an ability to assimilate quickly their subtleties and detail. With demonstrable experience of having successfully led motivated and developed a team of professionals you will have experience of managing communications for major events with many stake holders and large reputational risks.
