The BBC National Orchestra of Wales is the nation’s premier symphony orchestra and is one of six performing groups run by the BBC across the UK.
Based at its new recording and rehearsal base - BBC Hoddinott Hall at the Wales Millennium Centre - BBC NOW has established itself as one of the UK’s foremost orchestras. It regularly performs on BBC Radio 3 and at the BBC Proms and works closely with BBC radio and television teams, recording soundtracks for programmes such as Doctor Who and Human Planet.
BBC NOW also performs at venues across Wales and is Orchestra-in-Residence at St David’s Hall, Cardiff. It tours internationally and completed a seven-concert tour of China in July. Innovative education and community outreach work forms an integral part of the orchestra’s national role.
The BBC is seeking an inspirational and experienced Director to lead the orchestra, to build on its musical achievements and to continue to develop its profile and reputation in Wales, across the UK and internationally.
Reporting to the Director of BBC Cymru Wales, the ideal candidate will be an accomplished senior executive in the classical music industry with a sound knowledge of orchestral repertoire and experience of working with musicians and leading administrative teams. The ability to inspire, lead change and work collaboratively with a range of partners is essential.
