The Director’s responsibilities will include the following:
- Protect the corporation’s channel of distribution and its product categories from regional and national legislative and regulatory threat that would impede or halt business operations. Assess the commercial implications of the potential impact of proposed regulation & legislation and identify and capitalise upon opportunities to influence legislative policy development;
- Enhance corporate reputation with government officials and other stakeholders through direct contact and representation of corporate positions. Principal authorities include: European Commission; European Parliament; EU Member State and other national governments, US government abroad, Ministries of Health and Agriculture, Food Standards Agencies, national and regional consumer bodies and others;
- Advise senior management, senior distributors and other departments on external issues. Provide regular briefing papers distilling complex regulatory and legislative developments and work with other departments to advise senior management on policy decisions to be made. Prepare simple distillations of public external affairs issues to serve as briefings for senior distributors. Provide additional one-on-one briefings for selected senior distributors if required;
- Counsel with other internal departments helping them to fulfill their responsibilities e.g. in providing accurate media responses and in ensuring ethical market place standards, truthful claims, compliant product formulations and labels, etc. Serve as a resource to other departments in answering the myriad of legal, technical, scientific and policy queries surrounding external issues;
- Develop strategic regional and national alliances with principal competitors and lobby to create a legislative & regulatory environment conducive to sales growth & business profitability. Establish and maintain strong working relationships with key figures that affect the company’s government and industry affairs and other influencers including professional and trade associations, such as Business, Direct Selling and Nutrition associations, to ensure accuracy of policy development and lobbying execution;
- Prepare regular written summaries of activities for regional and Home Office. Contribute to weekly WRGIA newsletters in EMEA and monthly departmental worldwide report;
- Actively support the EMEA business plan priorities;
- Shared responsibility and accountability for identified sections of annual departmental budget.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree; Masters degree preferred. Appropriate working experience to demonstrate application of skills. Postgraduate education in a related field of study;
- Minimum 10 years experience in the field of negotiations with government or regulatory authorities, preferably at regional and international level;
- Experience in the major fields of operation of the company (direct selling and nutrition) preferred;
- Extensive knowledge of international trade policy, legislative procedures and regulation of food/food supplements;
- Extensive experience and successful leadership in trade association management and operation;
- Multi-lingual - in major European languages, including sound command of English.

- Ability to deal with complex legal, scientific and business issues, extrapolating core principles into defined innovative strategies;

- Ability to write strategy papers, briefing documents, reports and position papers;
- Ability to organize workload for effective implementation;
