Legal Officer - Protection


Main tasks:
• Provides the Protection Department with legal support on criminal law and human rights issues, focusing on judicial guarantees and other legal issues related to detention
• Assists the Delegation in the persuasion and mobilization processes involving political authorities, particularly relating to detention and judicial guarantees;
• Supports the Protection Department on its activities (detention visits, protection of civilians affected by hostilities);
• Assists the Delegation on its "Call for Action" project which aims to foster cooperation among the criminal justice stakeholders in order to address the causes of overcrowding in Philippine jails
• Researches and monitors legal issues related to detention in the Philippines
• Develops and maintains ICRC's network of contacts in the fields of criminal law and human rights (government, NGOs, international organization);
• Liaises with key ICRC contacts in the Supreme Court, Congress, BJMP and other government agencies;
• Performs other general duties (e.g. meetings, reporting)
Minimum required profile:
• Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor Degree
• A member of the Philippine BAR
• Very good knowledge of International Humanitarian Law and of national legislation
• At least four-year work experience in similar function
• Teaching/dissemination experience
• Fluent in spoken and written English and national language
• Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)

You take initiative and can work independently, but you coordinate well with others and enjoy being part of a team that is highly dedicated to supporting the humanitarian activities of the organization.
