About our team
Supporting a variety of functions in our Commercial directorate, the Commercial Performance team delivers insights that drive tactical and strategic decision making, from long term revenue forecasting to setting targets and pricing decisions.
 
Our department is divided into three key areas:
 
Revenue Planning and Forecasting principally support BA’s core finance and commercial functions. The team reports on performance, forecasting BA revenue and setting targets for the sales teams to drive the business forwards.
 
Revenue Performance support the business cycle of BA by investigating and highlighting the performance drivers. The team estimates the probable impact of events and activities via feasibility studies and business cases.
 
Market Revenue Planning sets up deals with corporates who choose to fly with BA on a regular and ongoing basis, and manages the relationships with our key leisure agency partners to optimise revenue from these channels.
 
We have a variety of opportunities for Analysts and Senior Analysts in each of these teams to work on crucial analysis and insights. Becoming and working alongside our experts in Commercial Performance, you could be influencing BA’s £9bn revenue delivery every year.

About the day to day

Our three teams cover the below remit of work:
  • Working in a variety of areas such as events, where you could be analysing the impact of geographical disasters, examining UK and Ireland sales, or focusing on corporate or high earning clients
  • Day-to-day you’ll support the performance monitoring process for relevant business areas, providing insight on current revenue streams
  • You’ll highlight issues and opportunities, leading to actions that deliver sales and marketing revenue targets
  • Analyse revenue performance, highlight relevant issues and provide recommendations outlining appropriate action to be taken (e.g. promotional activity, inventory action or price changes)
  • Play an integral role in the revenue planning process, which delivers revenue targets and forecasts to all areas of the business
  • Input to sales and marketing strategy by providing analysis on the marketplace, cost of sale, marketing budget prioritisation plus customer and distribution initiatives
  • Provide data for and monitor return on investment via relevant tools and analysis
As a Senior Analyst you will also:
  • Manage portfolios of work and/or large strategic projects that impact on multiple areas of the business
  • Influence strategic decision making by maintaining strong senior stakeholder relationships and challenging their approaches through insight.
Tools and data we use: ·
  • We use Excel modelling, SAS for data analysis and data mining, Enterprise miner, Business Objects, Teradata SQL. We would train you up on all of these but look for you to have strong Excel skills already
  • Our data covers most aspects of BA business available on databases (e.g., flights information, commercial results, market shares, executive club member behaviour, schedules, margins on ancillary revenues, network plans.

About you

For both our Analyst and Senior Analyst position we would look for the following:
  • A strong and extensive analytical background and be able to demonstrate strong evidence of delivering insight through analysis on a variety of situations
  • Experience working with large datasets and exposure to SAS, SQL or similar data analysis software will be highly regarded
  • A relevant degree, most likely to be numerical or technical. The ability to build strong relationships across different departments and manage diverse stakeholders
  • Sophisticated influencing and presentation skills to drive decisions
  • High level of commercial acumen and the ability to think creatively and strategically
As a Senior Analyst we would also need you to be able to demonstrate the following:
  • Identifying, initiating and managing a diverse portfolio of large scale projects
  • Leading by example to facilitate best practice analytics and assisting others
  • Providing structure to complex analytical problems
