Background / General description:
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, is seeking an Associate Investment Officer/Investment Officer for its Public Private Partnership Transaction Advisory team in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The department provides advice on designing and implementing transactions to national and municipal governments to improve infrastructure and access to basic services such as water, power, health and education. Sector coverage also includes agribusiness, banking and mining.

The Almaty-based team focuses on projects in Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The position reports to the Regional Business Line Manager based in Belgrade, Serbia, and indirectly to the Investment Officer who leads the team in Almaty. The job will entail significant travel. 

Candidates will ideally have 3-6 years of experience in investment banking or private equity. Fluency in Russian and English is a must.
Duties and Accountabilities:
The incumbent will be involved in the full cycle of deal origination and implementation including the following specific functions:

• Participate in marketing activities, preparation of proposals and pitchbooks in support of business development efforts;

• Be involved in the due diligence and preparation phases of mandates, including technical, legal regulatory and commercial assessment of the transaction;

• Take an active role in project structuring and negotiations with clients;

• Drafting and preparation of contractual and bidding documents such as concession agreements, shareholders agreements, etc.; 

• Build financial models and other project components; 

• Build strong relationships with clients and government officials to facilitate advisory mandates. Maintain collaborative working relationship with other private businesses, banking and multilateral partners in the countries concerned;

• Acquire and develop a thorough understanding of the region
Selection Criteria:
• MBA or Master’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, science or math 

• 3-6 years’ experience at an investment bank or in private equity

• Proficiency in valuation modeling and financial analysis

• Fluency in Russian and English is a must

• Ability to interact directly and independently with senior management of potential clients, of financial and technical partners as well as senior government officials

• Excellent communication skills both written and oral, including the ability to convey ideas and positions clearly

• Ambitious, motivated, able to cope with a fast-paced environment

• Ability to work in a team, deliver high quality work within deadlines
