Background / General description:
IFC is a member of the World Bank Group and is one of the world’s largest international sources of financing for private sector investment in development countries with a mandate to reduce poverty and improve people’s lives. We finance and provide advice for private sector ventures and projects in developing countries in partnership with private investors and, through our advisory work, help governments create conditions that stimulate the flow of both domestic and foreign private savings and investment. Our particular focus is to promote economic development by encouraging growth of productive enterprises and efficient capital markets in its member countries.

IFC’s East Asia Department is looking to recruit a Principal/Senior Investment Officer to focus on investments in the Agribusiness, Manufacturing and Services (“MAS”) and Infrastructure and Natural Resources (“Infra”). The position will be based in Manila, Philippines and will be part of the East Asia investment team responsible for primarily business development and supporting transaction processing. Its a GG-GH position.
Duties and Accountabilities:
• Evaluate, structure, negotiate and close new transactions, portfolio restructurings, rescheduling, capital increases, equity sales, etc.;

• Develop innovative and appropriate financial structures for complex transactions;

• Proactively identify potential investment partners and opportunities based on industry experience, reputation, strategic fit, and financial capability. Conducting industry and market research. Assisting in the preparation of country and sector strategy papers, briefs and project profiles. 

• Work closely with the MAS and Infra Cluster team in the Philippines and the EAP region to prepare and execute business development strategies and evaluate the attractiveness of specific transactions and making recommendations for IFC’s investments. Analyze industry trends in the Philippines and EAP Region and stay current with rapidly changing business and market environments. 

• Leading negotiation/documentation teams in sourcing and executing IFC’s investments with a strong focus on credit, reputation and asset quality. This would include sourcing and processing through commitment; structuring of deals and negotiating term sheets and other documentation including syndications and getting necessary internal approvals. 

• Lead and manage project teams, mentor and develop junior staff.

• Develop and promote IFC's investment activities in MAS and Infra sectors in the Philippines, as part of IFC's overall Philippine country strategy.

• Managing IFC’s relationship with investee companies, which includes: 

- Keeping frequent contact with, and providing service to, the client; 

- Reviewing, analyzing and monitoring financial and operating positions as well as reputation of client companies; 

- Liaising with IFC’s Credit Department; 

- Coordinate closely with social and environmental colleagues to add value to our clients' businesses;

- Propose pragmatic solutions to specific industry challenges to achieve sustainable development impact;

- Identifying opportunities for further IFC activities with clients, in the areas of technical assistance activities (e.g. linkages, sustainability), financial services (e.g. carbon credits, clean technology) and investment; 

- Maintaining strong relationships with clients, government officials and the business community to facilitate new IFC investments; 

- Develop opportunities for technical assistance which will support IFC's investment activities; and

- Contribute to IFC’s repository of industry specific know-how, key industry ratios, lessons learned, and other tools for better and more efficient decision-making.
Selection Criteria:
• MBA with at least ten years of professional experience in finance, e.g. commercial or investment banking, project finance and private equity with particular focus on infrastructure, natural resources, agribusiness, general manufacturing & services industries.

• Knowledge of overall MAS/INFRA industry sector trends, experience in emerging markets

• Strong business development and client relationship skills, track record and ability to focus on client needs effectively.

• Sound business judgment in identifying potential business partners

•Strong analytical, credit and financial structuring skills, demonstrated ability to structure a variety of complex financial instruments (debt and equity)

• Ability to interact directly and independently with senior management of potential clients, of financial and technical partners as well as senior government officials.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English plus interpersonal skills, negotiation and execution skills.

• Ability to work in large, culturally diverse and geographically dispersed teams.

• Must have a high level of integrity; solid practical experience; a keen interest in development finance and in working on a wide range of project areas in a multicultural environment.
