The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Gero-Ed Center prepares social work faculty, students, and practitioners to work effectively with older adults and their families. The Center seeks a dedicated professional to serve as its next Co-Director. Based in Alexandria, VA, the Co-Director effectively manages the day-to-day organization and management of select Gero-Ed Center initiatives and activities. The Co-Director participates in relevant policy workgroups, alliances, and meetings, and recommends action steps and strategies to Center leadership; monitors and manages the Center's budgets; provides primary oversight of the Gero-Ed Track and related events at CSWE's annual national conference; researches potential funders; and participates in the resource development process. The Co-Director engages in extensive writing assignments and related project work; collaboratively writes grant proposals with Center staff and leadership; presents at local and national events and meetings; and assists with Center projects involving marketing, policy issue briefs, and program evaluation and data analysis. The Co-Director also works with social work faculty, students, and practitioners across the country and is required to provide exceptional professional communication both verbally and in writing. This position supervises one Alexandria-based .5 FTE Program Coordinator and works collaboratively with Seattle-based Gero-Ed Center and New York-based Harford Partnership Program for Aging Education (HPPAE) staff, CSWE governance staff, and stakeholders nationwide.
The successful candidate will have a Master's degree in Social Work, Gerontology, Public Administration, or closely related field and a minimum of four years program administration experience, preferably with a nonprofit organization, membership association, or academic institution. This three-year position, funded by the John A. Hartford Foundation, requires a committed, resourceful, and engaged professional who is passionate about and interested in issues related to aging and older adults. Candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to manage a large program involving multiple work assignments with competing demands and deadlines, be able to operate independently and collaboratively, use judgment, take initiative, and attend carefully to detail.
