Director General


Reports to: Director General, G.I.H.E. Switzerland
Location: London, UK
Appointment: Full-time; hours of work as necessary to fulfill duties and responsibilities; 12 month probationary period

PurposeTo serve as the inaugural Director General, responsible for providing overall leadership to Glion Institute of Higher Education's (GIHE) new branch campus in London. To provide direction and ensure the achievement of GIHE London's philosophy, mission, strategy and annual goals and objectives and to operate within the accreditation criteria/standards.
This is a General Management role, assuming full P&L responsibility over GIHE programs and campus in the United Kingdom.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operational Management: Assume full responsibility for establishment and successful launch of GIHE London and its ongoing operation. Ensure that structure is organizationally sound and developed and maintained in an efficient manner.
  • Student Satisfaction, retention and attrition: Continually monitor student satisfaction, developing timely action plans as appropriate to maintain adequate levels of student satisfaction. Oversees the development of operational plans and objectives to increase student retention and reduce attrition.
  • Academic programs:. Work with the Dean & Program Leader to ensure that educational programs are of high quality and are in line with GIHE Board policies, NEASC accreditation standards and corporate objectives. Anticipates trends and fosters innovation and forward-thinking in the development of new programs.
  • Financial Management: Assume responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective and healthy financial management. Maintains full awareness and control of the complete range of financial metrics including Budgets, Long Range Plan and CAPEX.
  • Resource Planning: Develop planning for the future, integrating enrollment activities and campus capacity and assets.
  • Human Resources Management. Provide leadership for GIHE London, managing all human resources with effectiveness in order to respond to changing business and situations and demands. Create a healthy working environment that values transparency and communication.
  • Governance. Ensure GIHE London's compliance with laws and regulations and its adherence to the relevant accreditation standards.
  • Representation. Act as GIHE London's "ambassador" - to parents, prospective students and stakeholders.
  • External relations. Represent GIHE London and foster partnerships with local regulatory bodies, accrediting agencies, alumni, press and media, other institutions of higher education, and business and industry in order to promote the institution, its programs, and outcomes in a strong, positive way.
  • International mission: Proactive in monitoring the general economic environment, market needs, economic or geo-political trends that could impact the institution. This specifically includes providing academic and quality oversight for international GIHE programmes, including certificate programmes.
  • Other duties: as agreed by the SVP Hospitality Education Worldwide
Education and Professional QualificationsMinimum Master Degree
Experience
  • 10 years at senior management level in either higher education sector or the hospitality industry
  • Proven experience and insight in higher education
  • Establishing successful start-ups
  • International experience
  • Change management experience in complex matrixed environment
  • Track record of achieving and surpassing objectives
  • Experience of operating successfully in a culturally diverse working environment
