Dean & Program Leader


Reports to : Director General, Glion Institute of Higher Education (London) & Director of Academic Affairs, Glion Institute of Higher Education (Switzerland)
Location: London, UK 
Appointment: Full-time; hours of work as necessary to fulfill duties and responsibilities; 6 month probationary period

PurposeThe purpose of the Dean & Program Leader post is to provide the lead on:
  • GIHE London's academic operation and the smooth running of all its programs.
  • The recruitment and management of the academic team (in terms of quality and consistency).
  • The academic aspects of GIHE London's successful integration into Roehampton's campus.
  • The management of the academic operations' resources, assets and the oversight of shared facilities.
  • Academic leadership to ensure that students successfully complete their program.
  • Ensuring that staff and students for whom they are responsible do not at any time suffer from discriminatory practices.
  • Ensuring that students understand the 'Glion Spirit" approach and the Student Charter and abide by both.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

General:The academic lead in the establishment of GIHE London. Heading up the academic operation and ensuring that it reflects our commitment to delivering the best possible student experience and academic outcomes. Providing line management and leadership to all academic staff at GIHE London. Responsible for setting the academic culture for GIHE London. The budget holder and responsible officer for GIHE London's academic operation. Communicating and working effectively with colleagues (academic and non-academic) in London and Switzerland. The Dean and Program Leader will carry a reduced teaching load to reflect their management duties and responsibilities.
Specific:
  • Assuring GIHE London's academic programs meet student expectations and all external (i.e. NEASC) and internal (i.e. GIHE Switzerland) standards.
  • Contributing some teaching to the delivery of GIHE London programs (reduced teaching load to be agreed with postholder).
  • Selection, recruitment, induction, line management, appraisal and development of
  • GIHE London's academic staff.
  • Preparation and management of the budget for GIHE London's academic operations.
  • Establishment and operation of appropriate quality assurance systems and procedures for GIHE London. Organising, participating in/leading (as appropriate) all relevant academic/program committee meetings for GIHE London (in London and Switzerland).
  • Oversight of the academic administrative team.
  • Planning the introduction of new or revised programs.
  • Assuring that appropriate systems and processes to best monitor and manage the student lifecycle are in place (from induction, to teaching and learning, to progression/retention, to graduation and beyond).
  • Organizing External  Examiner visits, meetings and reports associated with their visits.
  • Assuring Student discipline process is implemented appropriately.
  • Liaison with Roehampton Admissions/Registry and other relevant departments in Switzerland.
  • Preparation of documentation and reports (for GIHE London and GIHE Switzerland).
  • Planning the timetable arrangements.
  • Participating in external marketing and student recruitment activities, as required.
  • Establishing productive relationships with the hospitality industry (to promote and develop GIHE London and its academic programs), as required.
  • Organisation and co-ordination of student induction arrangements and ensuring that students and staff understand the arrangements/organisation of the program.
  • Ensuring arrangements are in place for the organisation of internships and their assessment, as required.
  • Reviewing students for Exchange semester placement.
  • Communications with Parents (as appropriate).
  • Other duties as agreed by the Director General, GIHE (London).
Education and Professional Qualifications
  • Masters Degree required
  • PhD preferable
Experience 

Required:
  • 5 years minimum at management level in the higher education sector
  • 5 years minimum experience of teaching hospitality management in the higher education sector
  • Experience of Budget Management
  • Experience of People Management
  • Track record of achieving and surpassing objectives
  • Experience of operating successfully in a culturally diverse working environment
Desirable:
    Experience of working in the hospitality industry Experience of establishing successful academic start-ups (i.e. new programs and or departments/schools) International work experience
