PhD Studentships Drama, Theatre and Performance University of Hull


University of Hull -Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

To celebrate the University's research successes, the University of Hull is offering 20 UK/EU PhD Scholarship, or International Fees Bursaries for candidates with a 1st, 2(i), or equivalent, in the thematic areas of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences:
  • Performance Histories  (particularly early Soviet drama; Czech drama; Medieval drama; popular performance; comedy; and contemporary British drama).
  • Applied and Social Performance (particularly disability arts and culture; theatre, engagement and citizenship; sport and performance; performance, democracy and participation).
  • World & Intercultural Theatre and Performance (particularly Afro-Caribbean and Siasporic theatres; theatre translation and cultural re-appropriation of of theatrical forms).
  • Performance Practices (particularly theatre and embodiment; scenography; Live Art and intermedial theatre).

Applicants will be expected to hold a minimum of a UK upper second class Honours degree, or equivalent, in an appropriate discipline.
Each full-time UK/EU PhD Scholarship will include fees at the 'home/EU' student rate and maintenance (£13,590 in 2013/14) for three years, depending on satisfactory progress.
The International PhD Fee bursaries will cover full tuition fees for full-time overseas students for three years, depending on satisfactory progress, but no living expenses.
Successful applicants will be informed of the award by 29th March 2013.
