Amnesty International’s Human Rights Education (HRE) Team is seeking an intern to assist with promoting, developing and managing an interactive online digital platform for young people-RespectMyRights.org. The placement is for a minimum of 5 days a week for a minimum of six months and the intern will work from the International Secretariat office. The work is supervised, but interns are expected to be able to work independently and use their initiative.
The HRE Team is currently a team of six persons with additional interns and volunteers. The Human Rights Education Team is responsible for the implementation of the International Human Rights Education Strategy, including the development and implementation of International Human Rights Education projects.
The successful intern would be expected to carry out the following tasks:
1. Support with the online community management of a global digital platform for youth (www.respectmyrights.org) and the development of an interactive platforms for Human Rights Friendly School Network.
2. Responsible for helping with the design and implementation of innovative digital strategies to get youth sharing stories and content online. We are looking for someone with lots of creative ideas and the drive to push the boundaries of how Amnesty International can use digital for participatory learning online.
3. Assisting in communications with global project partners, through online discussion forums, to collect materials and follow up on emails
4. Support the monitoring and evaluating the usage and level of engagement on the platform.
6. Various support and administration tasks including organizing meetings, taking minutes, writing and editing.
We would expect the successful intern to have the following skills and experience:
- Excellent spoken and written English;
- Demonstrated understanding of effective social media outreach and monitoring;
- Proven ability to design and implement global strategies for online community engagement;
- Demonstrated experience in speedy and concise quality writing and editing, and creating compelling online content;
- Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining online communities;
- Strong knowledge and understanding of digital media & web editing / production, especially the blogosphere;
- Experience in using web content management systems;
- Knowledge / experience in human rights education, social justice, youth and education and/or digital activism
- Knowledge of French and/or Spanish would be desirable
- Graphic design capabilities would be an asset.
