The role is placed in the News and Knowledge (N&K) department within BBC Future Media responsible for the following BBC Online products: News, Sport, Weather, Knowledge & Learning, CBBC, CBeebies, BBC Homepage and Search. We manage and develop products on websites, mobile devices and interactive TV, and have a world-leading approach to content management and metadata.

Role

The Senior Technical Project Manager will be responsible for leading and managing multiple concurrent software projects from initiation through to delivery. The successful candidate will be able to lead and manage software projects utilising agile frameworks with a strong focus on delivery, risk and quality. The candidate must take a balanced view of delivery of solutions across time, cost and quality and be able to communicate effectively to non-technical audiences and stakeholders.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
• Highly proficient in project management and running projects through the entire lifecycle, using a structured methodology.
• Extensive experience in multiplatform technologies and delivery of technology based projects
• Experience (as project manager or technical project manager) of managing projects and service propositions across the whole lifecycle within a technically complex and uncertain environment
• Highly experienced in running and delivering projects through the entire lifecycle using a structured, agile methodology
• A clear understanding of agile development processes.
• Experience of ensuring quality of software projects by working with software testing teams and managing software defect resolution
• Experience with managing the operational issues around large, high-visibility, high-volume applications and coordinating resolution of operational issues with an operational support team
• Experience of ensuring requirements are translated into technical briefs for developers, and where applicable experience of doing this yourself
• Experience with an extensive range of delivery management tools including selection of the most appropriate and sharing knowledge with others
• A strong understanding of BBC output and the potential for the BBC's interactive services
• Experience of managing (such as day to day allocation of work and motivating the team) multidisciplinary teams to delivery projects
• Proficient with Microsoft Project or other forms of project managing reporting tools
• Experience in with authoring and understanding technical documentation
• Certified Scrum Master
• Prince 2 or other project management methodology

You will also have sound understanding in at least four of the following:
• Mark-up languages such as XML, HTML, and CSS
• Client Side scripting languages such as Flash, JavaScript, JQuery
• Web based content management systems
• Templating languages such as XSLT and XSSI
• AV for the web including streaming
• User Centred Design
• Server Side scripting languages, such as Perl, Java, PHP
• Knowledge of internet architectures and networking
• Database design
