We are seeking a researcher to work with a new network called the Plasmodium Diversity Network that is aimed at working collaboratively and bringing together independent scientific studies on malaria associated parasites at a genetic level and working jointly on the analyses in order to develop capacity in this area and achieve unified scientific goals.
You will work together with other members of the network to develop a coherent proposal for its future development and funding. You will provide ethics advice and support to its members and develop an integrated programme of ethics research and training activities to complement its scientific activities. You will build effective collaborative partnerships with other groups and networks and you will disseminate the findings of the ethics research through various mediums and you will supervise research assistants and fieldworkers when required.
You will have a Masters in bioethics, social science or other relevant subject and have post-qualification experience of carrying out qualitative research on research ethics in the context of international collaborative scientific research. You will have evidence of an interest in the ethical challenges in international research in Africa and experience of carrying out empirical ethics research activities in Africa. Evidence of commitment to research collaboration and to writing together with others and of commitment to supporting the building of capacity in low-income country settings are also essential. You should also have excellent teamworking skills, a significant track record of research and publishing on community engagement and a willingness to travel internationally reasonably frequently.
The post is offered full-time for 6 months and will be based at the Old Road Campus, Headington, Oxford, or at an appropriate work-place in Africa.
