Regional Response Logistics Manager

By mid-2013 most of our international programmes will be delivered through a merged operation with 14 000 staff, managed through seven regional hubs and reporting to a relatively small, central office. The role
Responding to the developing regional crisis in Syria and its neighbouring countries, this position will lead and support the scale up of emergency response logistics functions and responsibilities across the region. This will include putting SCI logistics systems in place, capacity building and mentoring logistics staff in country offices (CO) in the region as necessary and leading on developing a strategic logistics approach to the Syrian regional response, inside and outside Syria.

The role will involve considerable field visits and travel in the region. Operational support for inside Syria may also become a high priority, if access is obtained.

Qualifications and experience
• Extensive experience in supply chain management in emergency programmes in insecure environments including assessments, sourcing, procurement, stock management (warehouse), transport and distribution
• Must be able to adapt to different environments and maintain flexibility throughout
• Must demonstrate an ability to relocate frequently (and immediately if required) and display management approaches appropriate to the situation
• Experience in vehicle and fleet management
• Experience in the set up communications networks - satellite phones and IT systems
• Excellent computer skills, experienced in Microsoft offices systems, including PowerPoint, Excel and word
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching at all levels and across multiple cultures
• Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in.

• Good written and spoken English
• Language skills in Arabic is desirable
• Experience or knowledge of working and living in the Arabian peninsula regions/context is desirable
