Advocacy/Animal Rights (Vegetarian or Vegan preferred, CPA required)

Position located in Norfolk, VA but you can reside in DC. If in DC, you will need to work from Norfolk every so often and housing is provided.

Salary: $70K-$90K+ (DOE)

Position Objective:
To oversee the financial operations of the Foundation and, subject to their supervision and approval, its supported organizations

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Oversee the Finance Department and its staff members

• In consultation and verified compliance with the objectives, standards, and requirements communicated by the Foundation and its supported organizations:

o Oversee and facilitate the coordination of strategic financial affairs for the Foundation and its supported organizations

o Assume responsibility for the management and reporting of the financial reserves and assets of the Foundation and each supported organization, including financing and debt retirement

o Prepare annual operating budgets for the Foundation and each supported organization

o Conduct a general-ledger review for the Foundation and each supported organization on a monthly basis

o Oversee the daily financial operations of the Foundation and its supported organizations

o Coordinate the completion of financial-statement audits and tax-return preparation for the Foundation and its supported organizations

o Manage the investment strategy and review the investment portfolio of the Foundation and each supported organization on a regular basis

o Perform a monthly budget review and analysis for the Foundation and each supported organization

o Approve 401(k), bank reconciliation, payroll, annuity amortization, joint-cost, disbursements, and state filings

o Allocate Foundation operational costs to supporting organizations and invoice appropriate entities

• Prepare 1099-R entries for annuitants and state annuity filings annually

• Review personal-property tax returns for appropriate states

• Review the cash management of the Foundation and its supported organizations on a weekly basis

• Review restricted-fund reports each quarter

• Prepare charitable annuity trust filings for applicable states

• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Position Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in accounting
• Certified Public Accountant license REQUIRED

• Six years of industry experience

• Three or more years of senior-level management experience

• Proven excellent project management, strategic thinking, and analytical skills

• Proven excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail

• Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

• Ability to provide proof of a positive credit standing

• Willingness and ability to travel

• Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. driver's license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record

• Commitment to the objectives of the organization
