It provides content for television, radio, online and interactive services which is of the highest possible editorial and technical standard which in turn provides the best value for money for BBC audiences. It has to ensure that in the face of increasing competition, the BBC is the world leader in broadcast newsgathering at the forefront of both the range of editorial coverage and technological innovation. 
 
BBC Radio 5 Live is the home of live news and live sport for domestic radio.  It is BBC Radio's main outlet for breaking news, bringing its audience major news stories as they happen, and providing context with wide-ranging analysis and discussion.  Its programmes are designed to inform, entertain and involve and appeal to news and sports fans of all ages and from all ethnic backgrounds and areas across the UK.

Role

This is a joint role working to Newsgathering and Radio 5 Live.  You'll be expected to cover breaking news, big regional stories and give added value on national stories, as well as pursue original journalism.  You'll broadcast live on radio and television and file reports for radio, television and online.  You'll also collect audio and video and conduct interviews for all outlets, as well as keeping across events happening across your patch.  You can also be assigned to stories outside your immediate area when the demand merits it.
On some days you'll work exclusively on 5 Live output and on others you will work as part of the relevant Newsgathering bureau.  The Midlands and East bureau covers a wide and varied patch from the West Midlands through to East Anglia.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have extensive experience as a journalist as well as experience of reporting on live/breaking news.  You'll need to have sound geographical knowledge of the patch and an understanding of the issues that face the region and considerable experience reporting from the area.  You'll also have an excellent understanding of different programmes and their audiences, both nationally and regionally and in particular on 5live.  Evidence of working collaboratively across network and regional output is also essential.
