Department

The BBC South West region’s online team includes journalists based in Plymouth and across the region, including the Channel Islands. The team is responsible for the output for local indexes and the main news website. Content also appears across digital television, mobile applications and a number of other platforms.
The South West’s interactive teams are responsible for all web and text-based services in the region. New technology has changed the way people receive news content and the team works  with colleagues from across the region to ensure content is available on demand where and whenever people want it.

Role

You'll take responsibility for leading the English Regions South West's Interactive team based in Plymouth and within Local Radio sites across the region. You'll be an experienced interactive journalist with a desire to develop and manage multi-disciplined and successful teams in the fast moving and rapidly developing world of multimedia journalism.
You'll be responsible for the output across the region’s interactive platforms and for delivering breaking stories from the region to BBC News Interactive. You'll manage the team and be closely involved in the development of the local sites and multimedia journalism in the South West. You'll also make editorial decisions on the structure of the site, ensuring content is written to BBC standards.

Requirements

You will have substantial journalism experience, proven editorial judgement and flair and be able to make valid decisions quickly.  The flair and imagination to craft original multi-media material with the ability to learn how to devise, build and maintain a structure for a multi-media news and information service.
You'll also have a sound knowledge of current affairs, a good understanding of sources of material both inside and outside of the BBC and a good knowledge of the range and variety of newsgathering and programme areas of the BBC.
You must be able to work well and calmly in an environment where news is constantly changing and being updated and have the temperament to enjoy the process together with the ability to work unsupervised and deputise for the editor. Understanding of staff management, motivation and appropriate deployment of staff drawn from different backgrounds and areas of expertise who will be required to work in ways which will rapidly change as multi-skilling becomes the norm. Your own writing skills will be excellent with the ability to ensure that others working to you write to a high standard.
