PR OFFICER / WEB EDITOR
Scale: 2500-3500 Euro gross salary for 36 hours/week
Position: 32 hours a week
Based in: Ede, Netherlands
Background
Wetlands International is a global, non-profit organisation dedicated solely to the work of wetlands conservation as a contribution to sustainable development. We aim for wetland conservation to maintain the key values of these areas: local livelihoods, climate regulation, water provision and biodiversity.
The organisation has a core staff of around 200 people in 18 offices worldwide. Wetlands International works with partners in government, NGO’s and the private sector and manages a large number of global level, multi-partner projects. Our work ranges from working at the grassroots level with community groups to advocacy at global conventions. The Ede office is the headquarters of the global organisation.
The Advocacy and Communication staff at our headquarters (5) plays a key role in outreach to support the implementation of our strategy and to brand the organisation to support partnership and resource development. Online outreach, including social media and our website system of a global site and sites for offices, is an increasingly crucial element in this.
Who is our candidate?
The successful candidate will be a person who has a journalistic approach in developing attractive communications products (both print and online) and a strong interest in the international development and conservation issues of our organisation. This person is an innovator of the latest technologies with a knack for communicating in various forms of media.
Contract:
32 hours a week
1-year contract with option for extension

Reporting to:
Communications and Advocacy Manager Wetlands International
INSIDE Wetlands International:
Communications and Advocacy Manager and officers at our Netherlands-based headquarters; officers of other offices around the world working on websites and communications; other (technical) staff producing communication materials
OUTSIDE Wetlands International:
Website developers, designers, editors, printing companies, film makers, direct contact with our target groups.
Overall Purpose of the Job:
Responsible for the development our communication products and activities.
Main duties 
1: Lead responsible to maintain and develop our online outreach (50%)
-          Manage the website regarding content, navigation, look and feel (text, images, film, links, fora etc.)
-          Improve our online visibility; Create and guide our social media tools and establish and build online communities
-          Support offices and other headquarters staff in working on their regional websites (style guidance and some basic technical guidance)
-          Liaise with the external technical developer to improve the system and solve problems
2: Create communication products (40%)
-          Organise the development of communication products such as the annual review, regular newsletters, periodic reports, brochures or films. Organise inputs from technical staff, write and edit content.
-          Coordinate editing, design and printing of those products
-          Liaise with external designers, writers, film makers and printing companies.
3: Develop the systems of the communications department (10%)
-          Maintain the photo, film, publication and press databases.
-          Develop guidance and provide training throughout the organisation for style, visual and brand identity.
4: Good opportunities to grow into senior tasks

Qualifications and Experience
The following skills, qualifications and experience are essential:
  1. Appropriate tertiary qualification
  2. Passion for development, environment and nature conservation issues
  3. Demonstrated writing skills for different audiences and products
  4. Strong experience in online outreach: websites and social media
  5. Excellent command of written and spoken English
  6. Experience of working in an international environment.
Skills that are an advantage:
  1. Knowledge of software and website issues (design, html, photo, film and pdf editing),
  2. Knowledge of other languages; preferably Spanish, French
  3. Experience with press and strategic communications planning
