About the Organization of Human Welfare:
OHW is a not-for-profit, NGO operating in 10 provinces of Afghanistan since 2007. As a result of chronic ongoing conflict in Afghanistan, many Afghans are unable to access basic services or maintain their livelihoods. Livelihoods are highly insecure, development has stalled, and there are significant disparities between men and women. In response to these substantial needs, the Organization of Human Welfare is focused on supporting and enabling the most vulnerable communities, those who have little or no access to basic services, such as health, nutrition, education, and water and sanitation and vulnerable livelihoods, in their quest toward economic development, prosperity and sustainability.
About the Project and Position:
OHW is working to carry out a gendered value chain analysis of almonds in two districts of Daikundi Province. The purpose of this research is to create a stronger foundation for future humanitarian and development activities for beneficiaries involved in the almond sector. It will be especially sensitive to the needs of women in economic leadership.
Data will be collected through Key Informant Interviews, Focus Group Discussions, and Questionnaires and will make use of tools such as gendered market mapping, gender assessment framework and value chain analysis frameworks. The length of the project is 2 months, of which 1-1.5 months will be spent in the field (primarily Daikundi province, with one trip to Herat)
Deliverables:
• The consultant will assist in developing high quality tools, frameworks, questionnaires etc necessary to carry out field research.
• The consultant will guide and manage a team of enumerators during the collection of data in the field.
• The consultant will assist the Kabul-Based manager in translating and analyzing data for the draft of the report.
• The consultant will offer expertise and input during the drafting of the report.

Qualifications: Mandatory:
• Demonstrable experience in value chain analysis and field research (if possible please provide a past report which you have authored on the subject)
• University degree in agricultural economics or other relevant qualification
• Willing to start ASAP
• Be currently located in Afghanistan
• Proficient in Dari/Persian and English
• Willing to travel to Herat, Kabul and throughout Daikundi Province
• Ability to work quickly against deadlines
• Able to manage ones own time, activities and responsibilities with moderate-to-minimal oversight from the Kabul office
• University degree in agricultural economics or other relevant qualification
• Willing to start ASAP

Security:
Please note that OHW has professional conduct as well as security protocols, which all permanent and temporary staff are expected to follow. Interested applicants should be aware that this position requires travel to remote areas of the central highlands of Afghanistan. Language skills, following security protocols and respect for and understanding of local culture, beliefs and behaviors are mandatory and help mitigate risk but do not eliminate it.
