As a part of TASK’s Conflict mitigation and peace building in Kyrgyzstan, an EU-financed project implemented since November 2011 by a consortium of international and national organisations, Alert and local partner organisations are working to develop nascent and strengthen existing mediators working in four oblasts of the Kyrgyz Republic. Alert’s project component has three main objectives: to strengthen practical knowledge, skills and abilities of mediators; to facilitate dialogue among international and national experts on mediation around key issues such as certification and a code of ethics; and to foster mediation as a tool for conflict resolution.
Position
We are looking for a dynamic candidate to join Alert’s team in the Kyrgyz Republic as Project Coordinator for the remaining five months of the project cycle. Specifically, the Project Coordinator would, working with Alert’s country team and project partners: • Provide both content-based and strategic support for greater coordination of Alert implementing partner activities and functioning as a liaison between partners and Alert; • Ensure greater transparency and overt linkages between and among Alert activities and other TASK partner project activities, supporting the Alert team to link activities together and find / utilise additional synergies between Alert activities and those of TASK partners; • Strengthen and facilitate relationships between Alert and wider national and international peace-building community to promote mediation as a conflict resolution tool; • Support the monitoring and evaluation of on-going activities, and work with Alert staff and implementing partners to link Alert monitoring to overall project monitoring.
Person Specification
Essential skills and experience
• Demonstrated experience in implementing complex international projects with many diverse actors and a tight time frame, at the management level; • Experience in the fields of conflict resolution and peace-building, particularly in the Central Asian region; • Experience in designing and implementing monitoring and evaluation activities; • Strong initiative and follow-through, the capacity to think creatively and strategically, excellent writing and facilitation skills; • Strong interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively within Alert as well as with external partners; • Ability to multi-task effectively, including having good planning and organizing skills and ability to work under pressure; • Near-native level of verbal and written English; • Ability to begin work immediately.
Desired skills and experience
• Working knowledge of Russian and / or Kyrgyz, Uzbek; • Experience in the fields of conflict resolution and peacebuilding; • Professional experience in the field of conflict sensitive approach to development ; • An advanced degree in a related field.
