Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in International Relations/International Security

University of Leeds -Education, Social Sciences & Law

Job Summary

We have introduced the title of Associate Professor for our grade 9 academic staff, which is equivalent to Senior Lecturer.
The School is making two appointments at Professor / Associate Professor / Lecturer in International Relations / International Security. These posts present opportunities for leadership and development within a vibrant and ambitious academic department.

The School runs successful and established research-led taught degree programmes at BA and MA levels in international relations / international security and has an active PhD programme.

We would welcome applications from across the discipline. Research into International Relations and Security at POLIS embraces normative approaches to understand contemporary security challenges, and explores such specialised themes as the war on terror; British, EU and US foreign policy; nuclear proliferation and strategy; the use of force and questions of intervention in international society; the global politics of the environment including energy security. Many of these research themes also inform the study of particular regions which include area specialisations in the politics and security of the UK and Europe, Africa, the Middle East, South East Asia and China. It is expected that the successful candidates will either strengthen and augment the existing research and teaching capacity of the School in these areas or contribute some new and distinctive areas of expertise and specialism.

A key strength of the School more broadly lies in work conducted at the intersections and crossing-points of politics, international relations and international development and the post thus offers opportunities to work in an inter-disciplinary School and Faculty, supported by a strong and energetic group of like-minded colleagues.

Please note the University is closed for Christmas from Friday 21 December 2012 and reopens on Wednesday 2 January 2013. We are therefore unable to respond to any queries relating to your application during this time.

Closing Date: 10 February 2013
