Task Description:

With respect to the safety engineering discipline:
Perform (and/or mentor others in) traditional safety assessments/analyses in accordance with ARP4761 & ARP4754 Rev A, including but not limited to, Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSAs), System Safety Assessments (SSAs), Fault Tree Analyses (FTAs), and Common Mode Analyses (CMAs). This individual will also aid system engineering teams in defining system architectures during new development activity.
With respect to the reliability engineering discipline:
Assessment/analysis tasks may include reliability predictions, stress and derating analyses, failure mode & effects analyses (FMEAs), and maintainability assessments. Engineering development test support associated with this position includes the areas of Reliability Enhancement Testing (RET) and Environmental Stress Screening (ESS). These testing efforts may include development of test procedures and reports, as well as performing tasks associated with conducting the actual tests (e.g., overseeing and conducting testing, conducting failure review board meetings, and contributing to the definition of corrective actions).
Assignment Complexity:
The individual will generally work on assessment/analysis tasks under the guidance and mentoring of a more senior engineer. These tasks are typically difficult to define and have solutions which require the use or development of advanced principles and concepts. The individual may also be required to solve problems with little or no known precedent. The individual must be able to look at problems from multiple indenture levels within a system architecture.
Accountability:
The individual will work under general and limited direction in relation to long range organizational goals. The individual will be held accountable for implementing the strategic direction set forth by the group manager. The individual may also work under direct guidance and mentoring in relation to specific task assignments and will be accountable for performance on those tasks.
Requirements:
Basic circuit analysis knowledge is required
System architecture development knowledge is required
Basic to advanced knowledge of the following avionics industry guideline material is required: ARP4761 Rev -, ARP4754 Rev A, DO-254, and DO-178B
Basic to advanced knowledge of the reliability engineering discipline and practices
Basic knowledge of the maintainability engineering discipline and practices
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office tools is required
The individual must also have the following abilities:
• Self-motivation
• Effective oral/written communication skills
• Effective interpersonal and team skills
• Capability to serve as a technical mentor
• Knowledge on how to prepare and present technical information to peers, to all levels of internal management, and to external customers
• Knowledge on how to coordinate several projects and complex engineering activities while balancing priorities and schedules
• Appreciation for, and an understanding of, component failure modes and wear-out mechanisms is also strongly desired, though not required
• Experience with Microsoft Access is desired
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in an applicable engineering or science field and six years of related experience.
