Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, Glion Institute of Higher Education (London)


Reports to: Dean & Program Leader, Glion Institute of Higher Education (London)
Location: London, UK
Appointment: Full-time; hours of work as necessary to fulfill duties and responsibilities; 3 month probationary period

Purpose
The role of a faculty member is to impart and disseminate information and skills to students so that they gain and develop lifelong skills in an environment that is conducive to learning and development, within an atmosphere of support and encouragement.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Academic Duties & Responsibilities:
Teaching:
  • To teach courses according to the academic program within the lecturer's field of expertise;
  • To be available for and give academic counselling to students;
  • To provide teaching cover for absent members of academic staff.
Academic Administration and Supervision:
  • To prepare and update teaching material to the standards required by GIHE
  • London, maintaining a course file for each class;
  • To prepare and mark assessments, examinations, assignments, course work and course projects;
  • To invigilate and assist others with invigilation;
  • To maintain up-to-date records of grades, student attendance in the required form;
  • To support and follow GIHE London policies;
  • To comply with GIHE London academic standards and procedures;
  • To take part in academic advising of allotted students;
  • To be available as per schedule for tutorial duties;
  • To provide administrative and supervisory cover for absent members of academic staff.
Professional Excursions:
  • To participate in the planning and organization of professional excursions as directed by the Dean & Program Leader or their representative;
  • To accompany and supervise students on professional excursions;
  • To prepare written excursion plans and reports.
Communications:
  • To attend academic/committee meetings during, immediately before, and after each semester;
  • To participate in organized in-house training sessions;
  • To participate in program design and development;
  • To participate in course review and evaluation activities;
  • To participate in faculty appraisal activities;
  • To participate in appropriate staff development or scholarly activities or research as directed.
Non-Academic Duties & Responsibilities:
  • To enforce GIHE London student rules and regulations;
  • To be seen as a role model to students academically and professionally;
  • Other duties and responsibilities as agreed by the Dean & Program Leader.
Education and Professional Qualifications
  • First Degree or Masters' Degree Required
  • Teaching qualification
Experience
Required:
  • 3 years' minimum experience of teaching hospitality management in the higher education sector
  • Track record of achieving and surpassing objectives
  • Experience of operating successfully in a culturally diverse working environment
  • Experience of working in the hospitality industry
Desirable:
  • International work experience
